I met a guy today with a 1999 CTD, He asked me if his lift pump was going south, do you just replace the lift pump or do you get a pusher pump and do away with the lift pump completely. I told him I didn't know but I knew some guys that probably did. I tried to do a search but things are running kinda slow since the big change over. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks from a third generation guy!! -John

lift pump

I guess the easy answere is to just replace the exisiting lift pump. Adding a pusher is probably a better solution... but more of a project than simply replacing one.

If his truck is stock I would just change out to a new pump. Tell him not to buy from the dealer... . double the price, but rather from Cummins PN 3990105. Price should be ~$150. 00. This pump has been around since ~5-01, and for the most part has been pretty reliable. If he's heavily bombed, I would consider a pusher. Lots of archive info on choices, etc.

I just met this guy and he has bought a bullydog fueling box and a few other things. I told him he needed gauges, starting with fuel pressure and egt. He already had an AfE intake system on the truck and I think it had about 120000 miles on it. I told him he needed to join the TDR web site and gave him the sign up sheet, so I think I've got him off to a good start. Thanks for the additional info on the pump.

Truckstom, What kind of pressures do you see? I just switched from a Carter 4600 pusher and stock lift pump to a Carter 4601 alone. I see 11-12psi at idle and 6 or so at WOT. A little lower than I hoped. I'll try it a while and see. With the pusher pump setup I had 22-28psi at idle and never lower than 14 psi.

Turboman,

At idle it's 15psi... at 70 mph w/ comp on 3x5 it's at 12... WOT it's at 10 psi.

even the stock carter works better if you put back by the tank. IMO.

Dcochran... . I looked at the site u had linked and it looks like a very promising system... . Unfortunantly though the page with the price for system was under construction at this time... I was wondering how much these kits usually run... Any info would be greatly appreciated... Ty
