Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lift Pump Preasure When Key is turned on

When I first turn my key on and wait for ( wait to strart engine light ) to go off before start up should I see preasure on my fuel preasure gauge and if so how much. At the preasent time I may get about four pounds and then almost emediatly goes to zero. I would think I should see preasure at least until the lift pump stops its cycle.

I am also getting a P216 code which indicates I need a new injection pump but I also trying to figure out if the lift pump is also bad.

I have a 2002 2500

you may or may not see anything, if you turn the key on bump the starter (a quick one) and turn the key off you should see up to 15lb

there should only be up too 5lb for it to start any more and it may be hard to start, as soon as it starts you should see around 10-15lb

I see 15+ psi then a drop to zero on my model year 2000 Ram. The transfer pump has about 45,000 miles on it.



You don't mention anything about pressures idling, cruising, etc. I'd be more concerned with pressure (lack of pressure?) while the engine and VP44 are moving.

I see about 10+ PSI when I turn the key on and then drop to 0. I have about 12 at idle, 10 at cruising and 8+ at WOT. The LP has about 66,xxx miles on it.

Mine is almost exactly like Michael's Similar milage on the pump.
