Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) changing transmission fluid on six speed

Installed a 30# gauge on the outlet side of my filter yesterday... ... ... ... .

10. 5 lbs at idle

approx 7 at 2000 rpm

Is this normal?

Or a bit on the low side

Candidate for replacement or just keep an eye on it?

Thanks for the help

IMO, those numbers are on the low side. Check out a WOT reading, as well. 7 psi at 2k would worry me. For me, anything below 7 psi at WOT would seal the deal.

Over the past couple of years, DC has changed their recommended minimum readings to authorize pump replacement, and now I'm unsure what the current position is. (I'm assuming you're still under warranty)

The pumps are ~$150 when purchased through Cummins (PN 3990105) Lot cheaper than ~$2k for a VP44.

If you replace the lift pump I'd get a set of bigger banjo's from Geno's or Wildcat Diesel to install at the same time, assuming you stay stock or don't bomb it above ~325 RWHP. New pump and banjo's should give you much better readings.

I'd say thats real low. I'm about to change mine. My current one is 12psi at idle, 9 at cruise and 2-5 at WOT depending on how long I stay in it.

You aren't bombed so it's as big of problem as it is for me, but I'd be in the market for one.

'99 ... hmmm... I don't know if you need the pigtail but 3990105 doesn't have a pigtail in the box. 3990082 does have the pigtail.

Thanks

I just installed the Geno's banjo bolts when I installed the underhood fuel pressure gauge.

No warranty... ... ... ... ... I bought it used 6 weeks ago with 136,ooo miles on it.

I'll check the WOT on it tomorrow before I head to Houston.

Thanks

Deano
