23 lbs of Lift Pump Pressure

My Buddy installed a Carter pusher pump near his fuel tank and works in conjunction with the stock lift pump. The combined fuel pressure measurement of these two pumps is 23 pounds at idle and 18 to 20 under normal driving conditions. The gauge is read directly from the injector pump and not the filter.

My questions are:

1. Will a pressure this high cause premature failure to the injector pump?

2. Will the VP44 by-pass pressures of this level as a return to the fuel tank without harm?

3. What is the acceptable pressure rating for longevity of the injector pump?

Thanks!

Dave
