My truck has about 70k on it. When idling, there is a ticking coming from the injection pump side of the engine bay. It has always done this, however lately it's getting louder. I'm getting bad mileage, and the truck seems to be getting low on power. I don't have a fuel prssure gauge, so I can't check it out. I was thinking of replacing my lift pump and fuel shut-off selenoid. Eventually I plan on 600-700 hp.

My question is, should I just buy a FASS or something similar? If I buy a fass and the stock lift pump is in bad condition, can I just leave it? Or would I have to replace the factory LP anyways?

I would recommend sticking with the stock setup if you can. It has proven to be quite reliable. I would not take the ticking as a sure sign the pump is dying. Many people experience very loud ticking but still are moving plenty of fuel. If you are worried that it is failing, I would rig up a fuel pressure gauge and make sure before you make a large investment.

I have 180K on my stock pump in an 01 3500. My brother's went at 91K in his 01 2500. Is there a difference between the 2500/3500 LP's?

WaltHess, if you have a 12v your lift pump is manual(mechanical). Your brother's truck is a 24 v and it's lift pump is electric.

The eletric pumps in the 24 valves fail a lot earlier.

The mechanical pumps last a long time.
