Can someone tell me when a lift pump goes bad is it something that happens gradually with some symtoms or is it instant failure, taking the injector pump with it. Thanks:confused:

Actually, both have happened. But as a rule, it will give you warning signs, such as, a loss of top end power, hard starting, an annoying tick from the left side of the motor, even leaking fuel.

But there are tests. One is, a pressure test. But that may be inaccurate due to a bad or warn overflow valve.

I would suggest doing a search for "lift pump". Read the posts and you will have an idea of what to look for in your rig.

hdm48 Thanks for the info. Not to sound tdr illiterate,How do you do a search?

Do you have any idea where i migh find a sending unit for my truck other than the dodge dealer?

You should be able to get lift pump from Cummins it should be the new style pump and you should be able to get one at Auto part stores also.

On 12 valves with the P7100 pump a bad lift pump won't take out the injector pump the P7100 is fuel and oil cooled unlike the VE and VP44 injection pumps.

Search = Put your pointer on "Discussion Forums" at top of Page (window) go down to "Search Forums" and click on it. Use four or more letter words you can seardh in 12 valve forum only or all forums.

Ive figured out that its not the lift pump that i need but the sending unit on the fuel tank. Are there any other options other than the dodge dealer or a junk yard? Thanks
