just curious what is it that goes bad on these pumps typically?? i am asuming that it is an electric motor that drives some sort of pump. is it some thing internally that goes wrong on the pump like wore out springs in a check valve or is it the electric motor it self?? i was just thinking about this cause i think my lift pump went south again. :{

type in lift pump in search area ,and be prepared for hours of reading. i have replaced 4 pumps in 336000km. there are various problems , there is a plastic drive coupling that breaks, the spill valve and spring , motor brushes etc. i just moved my pump back by the tank . gained 2psi. eleminated the banjo bolts between pump and filter. hope this helps.

The pump is a rotary vane assembly which shouldn't give any trouble as long as it has enough lubrication.

The motor in it is driven by an electronics assembly board. Previous posts have shown the internals with some of the parts physically shaken loose from the board.

I would suggest that it is the physical breakage that causes the motor to stop running.

I guess I have been lucky. I have 132k on the ticker and have only had to replace the lift pump one time. Mine went out at around 80k and man could I tell it was gone. It's not a difficult job replacing it but I sure would hate to being doing it as much as some of you have.
