I remember seeing something about a rebuild kit for our lift pumps. Is there actually such a kit available? Where? Got a part number for it? And what's the part number for the latest edition of lift pump?

My second pump just died, I have 0 psi at 55-60mph. Scary. On my way to Cummins to get another one, stupid of me not to already have one ready to go...

Somebody correct me if am wrong, but i believe Carter makes the pumps. I would give them a call and they sell rebuild kits, i have bought them for some gasoline pumps. www.summitracing.com can get them too, call there Tech department and tell them the P/N of the pump and they can special order you the rebuild kit.

Rebuild Kit?

Briar, sure the kit will resolve the problem? The kit will help if the pump portion is worn, like if the end plates are tore up. But if the motor is the problem then the kit isn't going to help:(

Besides, those stock pumps have the life span of a knat!!!:)

Whaddya say we find a big strong diesel spittin' nasty mofo of a pump and quit messin' with the Carters? I'm beggin' now, no more POS Carters:mad:

Why don't you give the Summit pump a try? The one that I've posted about.

Ah, a message from my long-lost buddy, the pilot of the west coast Red Rocket ! Doh... you got a point there, HVAC, if the kit doesn't replace the motor, why bother... I kind of thought it would replace ALL the internals... . guess not. (Thanks also to EMD for your info, between these 2 junk pumps I now have, one might be rebuildable, we'll see) Okay, okay, I'll look at your solution to the whole mess, I know if it works for you, it'll work for me... ...

Could I trouble you to post the part number in here? please? :D The search feature on this website is still programmed to show "Sorry, no matches were found" no matter how comprehensive your input info is... I can't even find a match for "HVAC" Did you exist 6 months ago?

Briar,

A while back I was also thinking of rebuilding a lift pump, but once I took it apart,I found the only thing you could possibly replace are the vanes. Like HVAC says, only replace those if they're torn up. Well the vanes on mine are just fine,so it means it's bad internally, and you can't open it up. Makes no sense.

Anyway,I did keep the rebuild kit number. # 888-178.

OK diesel cruisers, check it out.

Summit #SUM-G3134 $99. 95

This is what I would be putting on my truck if my Mallory were to take a [CENSORED]. There are only a couple beta testers so far but the reports are all thumbs up. You might want to relocate the pump to the rear near the tank. Good thing your so far away cause if I were to get my hands on your truck well... we'd be achangin' stuff you bet!:)

If anyone is interested in a "Fuel Preporator" (comes with a gerotor pump) give me a holler. It's to bulky for my lil' 2wd.

Hey HVAC, I am looking for a fuel prepator. I was thinking if you put that back near the tank and replaced the stock lift pump with a mallory then it would be no problems right? Then all I have to worry about is my injection pump. Is it a good idea to mount the fuel prepator by the tank?

Hey Tom!

I just tried to get the most recent version of the lift pump, but the dealer said that a release date from the manufacturer has yet to be set. Unfortunately for me, that meant that I got the previous version. The dealer is going to keep the newest version on order just in case the other pump doesn't work out.

If you still want the part number for the newest pump, let me know and I'll get it for you.

Steve

Tom, the part number is 5015723-AC that is the latest version, but its on hold right now... :D

if you didnt see my post the other day about a pump i found that has a lifetime warranty, there is a Carter pump that i ordered from Car Quest Auto, they have both versions the 100gph 15psi and a 70gph 7-9spi pumps. I got the 9psi pump and used it for a helper at the tank.

the best part about it is you can drive down the street and pick it up, in most towns, and it has a LIFETIME WARRANTY.

the part number for the helper is E8257, it does not have a bracket with it and you will have to tap the lugs for threads, but that is a small price to pay for a LIFETIME WARRANTY it was $89 for the pump two barbed fittings and three feet of 3/8 fuel line. :D

Fuel Preporator

Jacob082, the fuel preporator has a pump on it that's big enough to use for irrigation:) You would mount it in back at the tank and your done. No other pumps are necessary.

I'll email you.

I love this website!

Thanks, Todd, Steve, Nowel... what a wealth of information, and in time to help me out, too...
