Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding lift pump performance after relocating the pump. I relocated a brand new stock lift pump to a new location near the fuel tank using the Vulcan kit purchased from Geno's. Before the move I had 15 psi fuel pressure (measured at the VP44). After the move I have 13 psi. Would this be considered normal? My second question is does any one have any experience with the pump lasting longer because of the move? I would appreciate any information that you could provide on these issues. Mnay thanks in advance.

When I relocated my LP I also replaced the pump with a new one. I actually saw a increase in pressure & it was harder to pull the pressure down under acceleration or a heavy pedal. I just replaced my LP so I'm still not convinced on increasing the life of these pumps but I'm sure it's better to push the fuel then pull it & it makes replacing it alot easier!

When I relocated my LP, the max pressure without the motor running stayed the same. The pressure with the motor running was better at ANY speed or condition!

I relocated the LP fairly early in the life of the truck, so I can't say how long pumps would have lasted in the stock location. However, I have over 150k miles on the truck and the 3rd LP is still going strong. Compared with a lot of others, my LP life seems pretty good.

If you purchased a new pump you probably bought P/N# 4935730 lift pump and not the old P/N#4932707 pump. The new pump has a passage that will allow fuel to flow even if the pump dies. This new pump has also been producing 13 PSI, where the older pumps were producing 15 PSI. So this is normal.

I also did the Vulcan relocate when my injection pump failed last month. The second lift pump on the truck is failing after 200 miles after installation of the relocate kit. I'm now waiting on a FASS.

Relocate LP

I did the same... new pump when I installed relocate with Big line kit. No increase in psi, but it doesn't move much when heavy in the throttle (13 idle-10 wot). I've only put about 2500 miles on it so far... no problems.

screen on pump module

This week I have done two trucks ('00&'01) that had restricted and nearly clogged screens on the in tank modules. both trucks had complaints of surge or intermittent power loss. One truck had a new lift pump and injection pump and filter with 9-15 psi pressure. Removed screen only from module and reinstalled to test. Seems to have fixed complaints. Appears debris in screens may be coming from deteriorating floats. The in tank module with out the in tank pump is almost as much as the in tank one. Thought I would pass this along.

Can a "normal" shadetree mechanic remove the screen? If so what is involved? I have a year old injection pump on the truck and it is now out of warranty so I would like to prolong it's life as long as possible. I am getting ready to order the relocation kit soon. -Jason
