Lift Pump Replaced - No Problems!

Had been following the recent thread concerning D/Cs STAR Hotline and lift pump pressures. D/C said minimum fuel pressure at any throttle position should be 8psi or higher. This is what I had:



Idle: 9-10psi

Cruise at 65mph: 6-8psi

WOT: would go down to 1-2psi



Took a copy of the thread to Tacoma Dodge and they checked it out. Their diagnostic said fuel pressure was 11psi idle & 7psi at high idle (may have been measuring pre filter). They also did a "fuel restriction test" and said it was 2. 6HG at high idle (this may be across the filter). They said the lift pump was bad and replaced it.



Now I'm seeing:



Idle: 15+psi (gauge only goes to 15)

Cruise at 65mph: 12psi

WOT: 10-11psi

I am VERY surprised that Tacoma Dodge was that easy! They have been nothing but a P. I. T. A. to deal with on my ONLY 2 dealings with them. Did you deal with Pat? When I was in there last time, I mentioned that it seems like the 24v's have been plagued with bad lift pumps. She said "no, actually quite the contrary. We have seen very little problems with the fuel systems on the 24v's. " I haven't been in there since..... Oh, and another thing, they are NOT bomb friendly! Don't ask me how I know.

I am assuming you took your "stock" truck in for the warranty work, right? hehe



Those fuel pressure #'s are almost exactly what I am seeing on my truck with my Comp box on 3-4.

I am assuming you took your "stock" truck in for the warranty work, right?

Steve... I was expecting to get a lot of grief, but after the initial questions by Kathy (their diesel service writer) and giving them a copy of the TDR thread, they did not ask any other questions... And, by the way... I took in my totally stock truck... If this wasn't warranty work, I'd have done it myself... .

If you have a fuel pressure gauge, and your readings are similar to mine, I'd suggest you talk to your dealer (if still under warranty)...

I took my (now) stock truck in with Briar Hopper's test gauge in place. It was reading 9 idle 4 WOT. The service manager didn't have a clue, and I never got to talk to the diesel mechanic. But anyhow they replaced my lift pump with no arguements what so ever. The only problem was I had to wait a week and a half for the part to come in. (that they said they stocked) I wonder if they will be so accomodating if I break my VP44?:-{}

I checked with the dealer's parts dept before I made the appointment for warranty work. They had three pumps in stock, which tells me that they've got a history of using them, as they don't stock many extras without a reason...
