Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lift pump replacement

So far (95,000 miles) the lift pump on my 99 stock engine is performing well. It meets Dodge's pressure and flow specs.



But all the threads on here lead me to believe that sooner or later it will have to be replaced. Do any of you who have done this job have any words of wisdom as to how to do the pump removal and installation? I will appreciate any advice.

Check the FAQ. There is a step by step list of how i did it on my '99. It was my first time. I just changed it again (less than 5K on it) earlier this week. Took me about 45 minutes.

I live on the Gulf coast of Alabama, in the little village of Magnolia Springs.

When I was picking up my new MAP sensor at Cummins today, I mentioned having 105K on the original lift pump. These guys are really great to deal with and have never tried to push anything on me I didn't ask for. Anyway, I was told to consider the lift pump to be like a timing belt on some gas engines... replace it every 60K. After that, it may be OK today and fail tomorrow.



My 2 cents worth. Oh yes, I am about to replace my lift pump next week... just in case!
