I want to go with fass titanium or air dog 100, which is best and can you the fuel through the stock filter? how hard is the install? '03 HO.

03 is easy you have cannister mounted pump so draw straw is clear in the tank for this sort of hook up. not sure if you can push through the old pump though.

Replacement stock pumps work anywhere from a few thousand to a hundred thousand or so miles. There's no way I would want 2 of those junkers on my truck. But if you want to invest in 2 of them, it would be a lot cheaper just to carry a spare stock pump and change it on the side of the road (takes about 15-20 minutes).
OTOH, the FASS system is noisy but has a very long life. Personally, I wish I would have installed the in tank system rather than the FASS just because of the noise.
These are just my opinions, I have no financial interest in any of the products mentioned.

Todd's dual pump set up is actually quite nice and very flexible. You can run both or only one, giving you more flexibility than a FASS or Air Dog. I have changed my factory lift pump out in my driveway and I can tell you that there is no way I would have wanted to have to do that along the side of the road somewhere. The first time changing it is a serious PITA! Using the dual set up, the odds of both going at the same time I would think is very slim. So if one did go, you always have a good one to run on till you can change out the other. As for me, I ended up getting the in-tank lift pump conversion back in the spring. I had to have the entire tank control module replaced because it allowed fuel to leak out when I filled up, so I had one with the in-tank pump installed. It was about $450 or so at my dealer to do that and it works just fine for me.

I heard the older Fass was loud. I thought the new ones were quiet. Can't comment on current Fass quality. My Airdog came with everything. I'm also setup to easily go back to stock in an emergency. The Airdog directions mentioned connecting straight to the CP3. I connected to the stock filter housing. I wanted to maintain the factory fuel heater. Friend ordered his Airdog from a different vendor than me. His parts were slightly different. Mine was a better kit. Ordered mine from sourceautomotive. biz

The intank system is very reliable and quiet, flows plenty of fuel for any mild application. I don't think I would want to add a dual known for short life pump system.

Down side of the intank is when it fails you will be at the mercy of the tow,but the same as for a Fass Or Airdog... ... .....

Air Dog 100 was noisy but I cut a pice of rubber mud flap 1/4 in thick and put it between the frame and mount's for the Air Dog and the noise and vibration is gone.

You don't hear of too many in tank failures, of course if it does then its a big PITA.

I had an AD on my 03 and you could hear it but it wasn't too noisy. The install was easy, the wiring harness was plug and play.

I have a Fass 95 on my '03, it was noisy. I replaced the original relief valve spring with one about half the strength, it made the pump a lot quieter, quieter than the CC vacuum pump when it runs. Also, the engine will run with the Fass turned off. When I had the pump apart, it was like brand new inside, like it had never been used.

RSCurtis, How do you get to this spring?

Thanks,

Scotty

Remove the 4 nuts (or studs) that hold the pump to the motor. Then, very carefully remove the end plate, making sure you don't disturb the "O" ring. It might be a good idea to have spares on hand before you disassemble it. That way, you definitely won't need them.

air dog

I put the airdog 100 on my truck.

Hooks up to the tank with no mods as the stock pump is on the filter housing.

NO you cannot go through the stock filter. Why would you the airdog goes down to 2 microns.

Dead quiet if installed with the pump on the inside of the frame rails NOT on the outside of the frame rails.

Super easy to install. Only took me about 1-1/2 hours with the other half bugging me.

Call Richard at Glacier.

Replaced my failed lift pump with the FASS model lift pump and can attest to how loud the pump is. You can actually hear it over the motor when the windows are down, so if you think this my bother you I would go a different direction. But that said, it has worked flawlessly from -40 degree winters in Alaska for 3 plus years so I don't see what cold has to do with any sales pitch unless others have experienced otherwise. If it matters, I did not install a draw straw, the pump sucks right through the old one without a problem so it will probably do the same for you (my build date is Nov 'o3) having a redundant system is far better than running system critical designs, every aircraft out there has cross feed designs for this reason alone. Even though the FASS system was easy to install (took about an hour) I would have gone with the two pump setup if I would have known.

Yes, it can go thru the stock filter with no issues. The question why would one not want to take advantage of the OE filtration and water seperation.

Unless AD has changed the filters they are sending standard they are not 2 micron absolute, more like 12-14 absolute.

Even then, multi-pass filtration is still better than a single pass. Use the standard filters with FAS or AD, run thru the stock filter than add a2 micron just in front of the CP-3. Best of all worlds there.

While the pumps can draw from the stock pickups upgrading to the larger pickup is going to extend the life of the pump. The less resistance to suction there is the cooler the pump motors run and the longer they last.

Do you have problem's with fuel in the winter? I didnt run the truck all winter last but it was in the coldest part of winter. I used the fuel at our Station in town to be honest with you I couldn't tell if it was winter blend or not. I used Amalgamated winter additive and we had no problems at all. And My AD100 is frame mounted  Maybe I just got lucky, I do have the Espar heater Im so glad that I got that thing it's really nice.

You have winter fuel. Probably starting about mid October the blend is going to start switching to more #1 than #2 or however they do it.
