Lift Pump run time.

When I turn on my key, the lift pump only runs for about 2 sec. . Is this normal or should it run longer. A friend has a 2001 5 speed and his will run for about 20-25 sec. ?

Your lift pump is running normal. Only if you "bump start" the engine will you get the 20-second run-time.

If the lift pump runs on the long cycle everytime, cold or warm, bump or not, the fuel filter is getting pluged.

My pump is running very short, probably less than a second since it turned into summer. Is this normal or do I have a problem? If I do have a problem should it still be covered under warranty. I have 37,000 miles on a 99.

Wayne your pump is ok if it runs for a second of so. It runs to build pressure, if it runs only a short cycle than it builds its pressure quickly. If you leave it parked for a while, or it is cold outside it may run on its long cycle. If the pump goes out it would feel like its "running out of gas". Also if it is on its long cycle the fuel filter may be getting plug, because there is no pressure getting to the injector pump.

Under normal circumstances, the pump should run about 2 seconds. Mine does. When I bump mine, it runs for 25 seconds.
