Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lift pump summer school

Has anyone knowledgeable on the subject considered having a class on changing lift pumps. Nothing beats actually watching someone do it right the first time, and I would be more than happy to pay a few bucks on a saturday to learn how to change this thing once and for all. I do most of my routine maintenance and I'm starting to feel that perhaps the best approach to this pump is to just change the silly thing every year or at the most two since I don't have any guages. Anyway I thought I would throw this idea out there for some feedback I live in Virginia, but heck I'd travel anywhere to watch a pump get changed right. Took the stealer three days the one and only time I had to do it so far.

ABrown, I like your idea, but probably not practical for those of us living in the desolate West. My suggestion would be for someone who has the talent to change one get together with someone who has a talent to videotape. Make copies and sell them for a pittance to the rest of us uneducated/untalented souls. I'd even contribute for beer and munchies for those doing it. A video and shipping should not run over $10. Just my . 02!

I have not replaced my lift pump yet, but I carry a spare with me so I can switch them when needed. A few minutes under the hood studying the switch and you will see what needs to be done.

I think if you want to learn how to change your lift pump you should look to a local chapter of the TDR. Most of the chapters have at least one guy that is good at it or at very minimum one guy that will try anything once. I know ours in AK does. I bet if you look around there is a someone near you that would be willing to help.



As for changing the pump every year, no way. At the very least get the Genos fuel press set up that runs about $60 bucks and install it. It is way cheaper to have gauges than replace a pump that is still working.
