well boys and girls my custom gravity fed fuel system with the Aeromotive prefilter, pump and regulator and Racor fuel filter/separator/WIF has 19 months on it and so far not one glitch--now that I've just jinxed myself I'm expecting the worse----really though I just thought I'd update everyone that's interested-----chris

That's good to hear. Have you checked the area where you put the fitting in the tank? I used to have plastic tanks on my 76 GMC, and they cracked. I hope yours holds up much better .

aeromotive pumps

Chris, which Aeromotive products do you have? I have been looking at the A1000 pump as a LP replacement or pusher pump.

Lots of folks have and like the PE4200/4300 pumps, but I was more inclined to the Aeromotive stuff. All the guys at the strip who run the Aeromotive products say they are the best they have ever used.

yes it's the A1000---the other stuff I'd have to go to the catalog and get the #'s----the numbers have been posted a few times on this forum--if you did a search under my name you'd most likely find them---that is if you are in a hurry--I remember them being posted within the last 6 mos and maybe more recently---- I did put a bulk head fitting in the bottom of my tank and I think that's one of the reasons it's holding up along with it's a great pump----we just installed a PE4200 on a truck last Sunday---pressure was 19-20 psi---new 1/2" pickup, re-did all the fuel lines in -08AN---I personally don't like the pusher pump idea in the first place and especially not with this pump(way to much pressure), but that's been hashed out---you need to do what's comfortable for you though--I run my pressure at around 18-19 psi- it will drop briefly to 14 psi when I hammer it--- -10AN feed with -08 from pump to VP44--chris

Chris, what sort of regulator are you using? Can you sorta describe it, and where you have it mounted? Is it a bypass type where you return excess fuel to the tank? Where did you get it, and what price?

I've been looking for an adjustable, diesel-compatible bypass regulator for my truck to mount up as close to the VP-44 as possible, and set to about 12 psi, but no luck so far...

Chris,

Im glad to see that everything is still working good for you.

In my searching for a fuel system I almost went with the bung on the tank like yours but I can't bring myself to do it.

At our local chapter meeting on Tuesday I am going to bring the set up that I will be using on my truck so that everyone can talk a look at it.

It is basicly going to be a 1/2 inch pickup tube through the top of the tank with a bulkhead fitting to a -8 line down to the PE4200 pump with -8 all the way to the filter on the engine.

I already have all the -6 and webber fittings on the engine.

The set up looks very nice. I can't wait to see how it works on my truck.

Bill

Gary--it's an Aeromotive bypass regulator that does indeed return the extra fuel to the tank--it is located close to the VP44(by the battery)---I'll try and find the #---chris

Glad to hear it's still pushing strong Chris ;) . I know, deep in my heart, that your idea of gravity feed is the only way to go. I might do the mod to my truck this summer.

What kind of plastic is the tank made of... polypropylene or HDPE or neither. I know at least both of those can be easily welded so a bottom fitting could be put in. Usually the welds on those plastics are stronger than the basic plastic itself. What then, does the return go back in the top of the tank in its usual location? I like the idea too!

I haven't a clue what type plastic it is--I know it's like two parts with a clearish inner and black outer----I left the stock return system alone and tapped into the tank fill overflow(12" x 3/4" rubber hose I teed into) ----chris
