Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lift pump ?

I have a friend with the same truck as I, she is having problems with the truck running. Like it is running out of fuel. I plan to get a gauge and check lift pump. Do I check it at the Shrader valve on the injection pump? Is the lift pump the unit right before the fuel filter? Also when I get a gauge what psi do I need to ask for.

Correct on all counts. You should see 12-15 psi and over 50 oz of flow in 25 seconds

Does the gauge check flow also, if so what kind of gauge do I ask for.

You are goign to need a hose like an air conditioning gauge hose that screws on to the schrader and then a gauge that will screw into the hose end. I bought my hose at Johnstone Supply but any AC&R place will have them and I had a gauge at home. You won't be able to see any flow and for the most part it's not an important test. The flow test came about so Chrysler can weasle out on doing warranty work just make sure you have somewhere close to 15 psi at idle and around 10 psi going down the road. That means buy a hose long enough so you can stick the gauge under the windshield wiper.

Not familiar with AC&R, how about NAPA, would they have the set-up?

An Air Conditioning and Refrigeration supply place (AC&R), maybe a big plumbing supply. NAPA could probably get the hose but you need to know exactely what to ask for, I didn't so I went to the AC&R place and looked around until I found what I thought would fit and then asked to take it outside to try it.
