To answer post 1, the lift pump is not the same as the 2nd gen trucks 24V engines. In the 3rd gen trucks, it's attached to the fuel filter housing.

To answer post 2, a lift pump, also termed transfer pump, is used to transfer fuel from the tank to the high pressure pump, which pressurizes the fuel into the common rail.

I haven't been monitoring the 3rd gen forums too closely, but are the 3rd gen lift pumps failing with any regularity like the 2nd gen pumps have been? Or have they finally got it right this time?

Realize that there are LOTS more of the 2nd generation stuff out on the road than the 3rd generation stuff - so numbers affected MIGHT appear a bit slanted - but based on what is showing up here with increasing frequency, the problem still remains on the 3rd generation stuff - reportedly several DC revisions already done (reminiscent of what we saw on the 2nd genny stuff!) - and a fair number of owners with multiple LP failures - all sounds too familiar...

The lift pumps are just as bad if not worse, left me stranded at 23000k,Just do a search on lift pump problems, that will explain it. .

Ain't it great that we have to design and build our own new trucks. An el cheapo half a-- designed lift pump again. Now thats really the American way and it probably happened right after you had the Sixgun and speed loader installed. You did it you broke that lift pump so don't bother trying to take it back for a free fix. We are our own warranty, that is if you want to have any fun!
