Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lift pump

I'm having problems with my fuel pressure. When I first start the truck, the fuel pressure goes to approx. 14 lbs, stays there for five seconds, then drops to apprx. 2-3 lbs. During acceleration, fuel pressure drops to zero.

I changed the fuel filter and bled the lines, but still having the same problem.

I had the lift pump replaced apprx. 15k miles ago.

Is anyone else having this problem?

If I do have to replace the lift pump again, where is the best place to get one? Dealer quoted me $229. 00 for the lift pump (not including installation).

Sounds like the lift pump is junk, I got mine from Cummins for $148

Bob sound like the pump is on its way out. I just replaced mine a couple month back, it had the same issues.



You can get a pump for less than 150. 00 from cummins

Sounds like you could definatley have another bad lift pump. As long as all the electrical connections are ok. If they are ok then it is a new pump. I might want to check with Cummins to get a price from them. They usually are a little cheaper. You might also want to look at an auxillary pump kit to help take the load off the stock pump. We stock them here.

Could be the fuel pressure sensor -- this is fairly common. You might want to verify the pressure with a mechanical guage attached directly to the filter test port.

I would install a inline pusher pump. A carter 4601hp (summit racing) $85. 88. Stock pumps can't keep up with box's. Double team the fuel system. otherwise your injection pump is toast. Right now i'm running the carter pusher with a dead lift pump and it's working out fine until i figure if i want a new lift or do it right and buy a F. A. S. S pump. There not cheap but have a warr. of 600,000 to 800,000 mile run life. Still cheaper than a injection pump. how it helps L8'S

Replaced the lift pump yesterday, all's well.

I now have 15 psi. of fuel presure.
