This post is for all those that don't have all the answers and for the most part don't have boo-coo post. I have the info and the part # for a box that will include the carter lift pump built for cummins, a fuel sending unit with wiring harness, 6 bango washers, and the fitting that replaces the bango and allows for the install of a pressure gage . The cost is $66. 00 +tax. For what ever reason this info has not been made available and has been out there since 3/05. :D

If you have lift pumps alone for $66 (forget about all the other stuff) then you must have a deep discount source.

I would be interested in one if thats the price. I'm thinking of removing the in tank pump because of the lack of pressure. I'm thinking of a new lift pump with the rasp. Has anyone relocated the oem pump at the tank with the big line kit then use the rasp? Thanks Jeff

pump in tank

Hi Jeff,

I am new to TDR and this is my first post. I had a dealer install a new lift pump in the tank under warrenty about four months ago. I have a 2001 24v with a Edge-EZ chip, four inch exhaust, K&N cone filter and tube to the turbo with silence ring removed and a Transgo shift kit in the automatic trans. Also a full set of A-piller guages to keep an eye on things. I occasionaly tow a twenty foot enclosed car trailer. (With car in it about 7000lbs. ) I have not towed with this new pump yet. My question is with this low pressure pump will It pull my trailer? The pump only puts out 7psi at an idle and drops to 1psi under full throttle. I asked the dealer about the low psi and they called an engineer at Chrysler. The engineer said it was a high volume pump and it will work fine. I am still skeptical. Any info on this would be appreciated.

Thanks, Lee :--)

OK give us some more information, what where when??????

Lee,

The size of your fuel lines hasn't changed so if there is less pressure there is less flow, period! I personally would not want an in tank set-up. eventually I want to put in a cam with the lobe and a mechanical pump.

Hey Lee,

According to Brady at Industrial Injection the VP44 needs 13. 5 psi to keep it from getting damaged. My in tank pump idles at 9-10 psi. I can drag it to 1 psi getting on the expressway. I'm not happy with this new setup. My truck is still under warranty. I'll let it go for a while and see what happens.

Jeff

That's REALLY cheap, even just for a new pump... too good to be true?

Second... If you want a pump that'll keep up, ditch the factory unit. Get a FASS or RASP. I'm impressed with my FASS. I thought it'd be a lot louder, kinda like the holley on my dart, but it's pretty quiet. I can hardly hear it run. I can't drop my pressure under 15psi... and I have a hard time getting it to hit that.

Turbo Tim 1,

I agree with you about the fuel line size. It doesn't matter what volume you have. The stock lines will only move so much. With less pressure and the stock lines I can't believe I'm getting more volume. Thats why i'm thinking of the big line kit with the rasp. My 95 with the mechanical pump was never an issue.

I just got off the phone with the parts manager at a Cummins dealership. He does not have the 4090046 kit in stock but can order it for $222. 34.

Hummmm-bit more than the $66 originally advertised, but certainly a more realistic price.

Jeff, I have no clue who these fokes have spoke with and like I said in the beginning this has not been made common knowledge. I just called the Cummins in Cincinnati and they have 26 in stock at a price of $64. 90, even better than the $66. 00. Give this Cummins a call at 1-877-678-7744.

NPS you try making a call also. Like I said this is not about those with boo-coo post.

Don help me understand your reasoning for the above statement? I have been a member of the TDR for many years, and find this to be offensive. This site was started and intended for those CTD owners to help one another, NOT label them as Good or Bad, or know-it-all don't know so much. What would your idea of boo-coo posts be 100? 1000? who cares what the post #'s are. Some members have more knowledge and time to sit and read post after post after post and respond and help others, where the others of us would like to be able to learn as much as they have forgotten. I have seen on here where a member with 1000's of post have come across a problem that even they need help or input with.

Have a good day.

From the original description of what is in the kit it sounds like it is the "in-tank" pump kit. What makes me suspect is the "fuel sendinging unit". I'll be making a few calls about the kit myself tomorrow. I'll find out for sure then.

Hello, It is not the in tank kit! I have bought the kit and have installed the pump on the frame rail with the Vukcan big line and it works great. I have given the price, the 800# and have explained my install and still its not getting thru, I'll say no more.

4090046

The 4090046 liftpump kit was released for a Cummins Campaign plan to replace liftpumps and injection pumps on school buses, transit buses and emergency vehicles equipped with the ISB engine. The kit does come with an "improved design" liftpump, a fuel pressure switch & harness, and a banjo connector & washers. The only way this kit was available in the past was to give your Cummins dealer/distributor a specific engine serial number to order it. It was not made available to or made to work with Dodge/Cummins applications.

The fuel pressure switch/harness and banjo connector included in the kit are to be installed in the OEM fuel filter housing. The switch is then wired into the OEM wiring harness and setup to trip the check engine light when fuel pressure is below 3. 5 psi. The ECM's are then recalibrated for this provision to shutdown the engine after 60 seconds of low fuel pressure. It also logs a fault code any time the fuel pressure dips below 3. 5 psi.

It is a good setup for ISB equipped vehicles. To bad it was only made available for school bus, transit bus and emergency vehicle applications.

The price as stated above is correct for this kit. The reason it is so cheap is because it is for a Cummins Campaign. Rumor has it that the liftpumps in these kits will be released for everyone soon. The price on them will be close to what the current liftpumps are going for now.

Hope this helps. :)
