So I'm trying to do my research on stay up with current issues with my truck and I've seen a lot about the lift pumps failing at around 70-80K, I now was 115K on my truck and don't seem to have problems. My question is, how would I know if my lift pump is going out? I don't have any gauges (yet) and the truck seems to run fine but I've read that the cp3 pump can pull enough fuel to keep the truck running even if the lift pump goes out, but will prematurely wear out the cp3? I'm buying the gauges this week, what is the best way to hook up a fuel gauge?

My ultimate suggestion would be to add a 2 micron filter on a remote head between the stock filter and the CP3. There is a short section of rubber hose you can take off and run one new hose to the new head and one away from it. A lot of filter head have 2 in and 2 out ports, simply use the 2nd out port for the gauge sending unit via a grease gun hose.

The second suggestion would be the same place (rubber hose between the stock filter and CP3) just insert a "T" in the hose and adapt the sending unit to the "T".

Godspeed,
Trent

Thanks for the suggestion. Where would I get one of these 2 micron filter with remote head at? Do you mount the new head on the firewall?

That is probably the best thing I can do, that way if it does go out I'll have the new one readily available. I'm already on borrowed time compared to when most of them go out! I'm getting ready to buy my gauges from Geno anyway might as well have them throw in a new lift pump
Thanks,

On your '03, if you unplug your lift pump, you'll find that the CP3 will empty the fuel filter cannister and get you about 2 or 3 miles down the road. Then it will die. Doing some maintenance that happened to me. Easiest route is probably getting a replacement from Genos and keeping it under the seat (or replacing yours and putting the old one under the seat).

That is true, but if you remove the pump (using appropriate bypass plumbing and filtration)it will continue to run with out any pump
