Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Lift pump

About how miles are the lift pumps generally good for? I don't have a fuel press. gauge yet, but would like to check it. I have a little over 162k on my truck. Planning on drilling/tapping out a banjo bolt to install a sender for a gauge.

200k on my stock pump, guess that means some of them last at least that long.

Just curious. I have a cylinder that sounds like a miss or a weak injector. Seems to be only at low rpms (under 1200) and goes away at higher rpms. It is very noticeable now with the new 5" exhaust (no muff). Only run it in the shop, haven't taken a drive yet to really listen to it.



Have done some searches and they seem to lean towards the lift pump, overflow valve or an injector. Sometimes I hear a ticking noise in the area of the FI pump or LP. Any ideas?

Mine is a 94 and they say it is normal for that on the earlier engines. I have the same thing going on with mine. I have ran through the valves, had the injection pump tested,checked fuel pressure, replaced the lift pump anyway,replaced all banjo washers,and probably other small things with no luck. The only thing that made it pretty much go away was a timing advancement 15. 0 or so. used to it would temporarally act fine if I bled the fuel at the filter as if it were getting air. I don't know why they act like that.

sometimes the ticking noise is associated with a bad return valve.

I have adjusted the valves. I don't think the preious owners had done them since they were . 005-. 012" out of adjustment. It did help alot, but still does it. They're due to be checked again.



Think I need to replace the fuel return hose also. If it has been sitting long enough, it stubles a bit right after start-up. Didn't do that when I got it.
