Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lift pump

latest saga on lift pump. number 4 was showing signs of going south , down to 6p. s. i. at wot. went to cummins dealer ordered new one #3990105. arrived next day, installed , bumped starter , no pressure, checked all connections, checked for missing seal washers, all ok , tried several starter bumps, pump runs but no pressure. returned pump, ordered another. installed today. bumped starter 2 times, started up ok, pressures 15 idle 12 at 70 10 at wot. failure out of box on first one. seems these things are not getting any better. :--)

It's strange that these pumps are so different. I installed a new pump about a month and a half ago. Out of the box I was getting about 11 at idle and about 10 cruising and down to about 7-8 at WOT. Now, with about 5k on the pump I'm down to about 9-10 at idle and cruise and down to about 7 at WOT.



When this pump goes out I'm replacing it with the FASS system. Think it's time to nip this thing in the bud.
