I'm reading WAY to many horror stories about lift pumps, and now yall've got me worried. I just bought a new 01 and a half. Has anyone had any problems, so quickly, yet? Have "they" fixed these probs. , or am I in the same boat?? Sounds like with each new truck should come a box full of all the "stuff" they know won't last long?? Thanx, Happy New Year all.

lift pumps

if you've done a lot of reading, you know by now that noone prolly has the final answer. prolly best insurance is a fuel pressure gauge in a post filter port. watch fp. if it starts to drop from your "normal", then you likely have the dreaded lift (transfer) pump failure. some of us are trying a pusher feeding the oem. time will tell... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Replaced mine at 12K:( . Was 10 psi at idle and 0 at wot, now it's 16 at idle and 10 wot, so far so good, just get a good fuel pressure gauge.

It is pretty easy to install. I have about $250 in mine with pump and parts. I know I could of shoped around and done a little better to.

fuel pressure??Mallory??

Thanx for the replies. but on the Mallory pumps, doesn't it give the injector pump to much pressure? How much is safe for the inj. pump, how do you regulate the press, do you need to regulate it, how hard is it to install??? A lot of ques. from such a little guy??

The mallory 4140 doesn't require a regulator---slap it on as close to the tank as possible and power it off a relay using the factory lift pump wiring--if you do a search or two you'll find out all you need to know -----chris

Way to go fellas, now my lift pump has decided to be weak,I got 22K miles, I get 10-12 at idle and 0 at wot, I am working way to many hours and only get sundays off so I am looking for a kit to simplify the install and speed up time also I have zero access to extra parts so I cant afford the down time. have read many posts on this problem and seam to get more confused every day . I have no time to experiment... ... ..... Kevin

Mallory 4150

You can get one from Century at the link below for $186. 00. Go to the site and do a product search for a Mallory 4150 fuel pump, then look for the one priced at $186. 00 (their are quite a few Mallory 140 series pumps on the site). Like Chris said, no need for a return regulator with this pump. It's adjustable to 14 psi's max. pressure. Add a good flowing pre-filter before the Mallory and you are good to go. Mount the pump on the frame, near the tank and wire same with a relay using the existing hot wire that powered the Carter pump as the trigger for the relay. The pump is completley re-buildable and the cost to rebuild a burnt Mallory is typically $50. 00. Been there and done that. Beware that the Mallory is not the end all solution to our transfer pump problems. My first Mallory died an un timely death after only 3 months of service, though the second is still rocking hard after 7 months of hard duty. Least I have a spare pump now. Here's that link... .

I just added a booster pump to my 2000 today. I have the original lift pump still. (56K) miles. I was getting 11-12 at idle,6-8 criusing down the road. with the comp off,and dd3's i got 4 psi WOT,on level 3 on the comp,I could hit 0 PSI,on level 5,can you say Vacuum?. I think my original lift pump is still good,I attribute the low pressure to my HP level. I added a Carter I got the kit from Enterprise engine,The Mitchell's. The kit was here in 3 days, excellent service, everything except wire was included. I ran it hard tonight after the install to see what i have now. When i did this today,I also put on all the rest of my Ray's banjo bolts, and drilled out the restrictive banjo fittins between the lift pump, and fuel filter housing. Now i have 19 PSI at idle,15-16 cruising, and no less then 6 psi, wide open,on level 5 on the comp. I rigged the new pump up,to see what it put out ,by itself,6-7 psi. i cant beleive this pump boosted my pressure by that much. I cant feel a power difference, at all,but i may not be able to feel a smalll increase.
