I just ordered a 05 1ton and one of the options was a light package. I didnt order it because I hate the roof clearance lights. Now I read a thred that if you order a 1 ton you get those ugly things. I need some help??
I think the light package includes a light in the engine compartment, illuminated vanity mirrors in the shades, lighted glove box, and a couple other things. Anything else I'm missing. That is something you might want.
I dont want the clearance lights on the roof. It is a big deal for me. I ordered a 3500 SRW 4X4, with most of the options but I hate those lights. This being Fri nite I cant get to the salesman I ordered it from until Mon so maybe someone would know??
My truck is a '04. 5 3500 SRW. If you ordered a 3500 '04. 5 you WILL get the clearance lights. Dunno for sure about '05. I did not want them either but had not choice. Now that I have them I like them. Just looks more like a truck I suppose. Good luck with your new truck, mine sure is great... .
I heard that the lights on the cab and the one in the center of the tail gate are required on one ton trucks? Some kind of Federal regulation or something?
Love the lights, as stated all the 3500s come with them, only the dually comes with the one on the tailgate, I wish mine came with it. I don't like seeing 1500s with the cab lights, there should be a law against it!!
My 3500 single wheel didn't come with the lights on the tailgate but I want to add them. I just like the way they look. Has anyone done that with theirs? I imagine getting the wires setup coul dbe tricky.
Federal regulations require the clearance lights on vehicles over 80 (or 80. 5) inches wide. Therefore they are required on duallys. The requirement has nothing to do with carrying capacity, only width.
Dodge installs them on all 3500s so you can't opt out even if you get a SRW truck. I suppose you could legally remove them from a SRW truck and repair the holes but it would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a 2500 exactly the same without the lights and just change the rear springs to those of the 3500 as I think that's the only difference on a 2500/3500 diesel SRW truck.
Thanks for all the imput. I think I am stuck with the clearance lights. Besides the looks, they make cleaning and waxing the roof a lot harder. Removing all the bugs ect is going to **** me off every time!
