I have a friend with an '06 Ram CTD and he called me this morning asking about a light amount of blue/black smoke after he starts the truck and it has been idling for a few minutes. He says the smoke does not appear on startup but after a short period of idling. Otherwise the truck runs great. It has about 40 some thousand miles on the clock. Is there a sensor that may be going on the blink???

Tell him to check the axial shaft play on his turbo(should be none), he may be losing a thrust bushing and dumping oil into his exhaust. I had an SPS62 do this, it was only noticable after idling a few seconds, could not see the blue smoke going down the road.

Hope that 's not his problem ,but definitely been there.

Interesting you should suggest that. I put a Cool Blue Tube on this truck for him. When I pulled the factory tube from the turbo to the air cleaner off the truck, the end of the OEM hose where it slips over the turbo inlet was bent under on the under side of the OEM tube. It had been clamped down that way. Before we put the cool blue tube back on, I took a white paper towel and lightly dampened it. I then wiped it around the lip of the inlet to the turbo to see if it picked up any dirt. It did not appear to do that so we assembled everything and went about our business. The only mods to this truck is the Cool Blue Tube, silencer MIA, and the muffler replaced with a piece of pipe.
