My dad(who shares the name edgeman) Has been having trouble with the head lights not staying on or flickering, or just wont come on at all. He has changed the light switch before but this time when you pull and hold the trun signal stick back the lights will come on and when you let it go they will just shut off. He has no computer so i am asking for a little help.

Thanks.

Pull the headlight s/w and look for burnt wires first. If none are found, it sure sounds like a the turn signal lever switch (multifunction s/w) needs replaced inside the column.

hey thanks for the feedback. His lights went out on his way to Iowa today, at night and in the middle of a snowstorm. Kinda freaky.

It's the multifunction switch. Two things happen with the switch:
  • The switch fails (most common)
  • Connectors come loose due to the tilt function of the wheel
The linked drawing shows the basic headlight circuitry model years 1999-2002. I have no clue what year you're asking about but earlier second-generation Ram headlight wiring is similar but is not swiched ground.
