The last cap I had was a Raven (I was told it was made by glasstite) and one thing that cap did was it moved whenever you hit or slapped the side of the cap, like if you were reaching up while washing. This Jeraco does not do that- it's a tank.

Good luck shopping.

Ive never heard of a Glasstite RAVEN. . My Glasstite is stout! Burtha butt could stand on the roof and it wouldn't care. As for slapping it on the side and moving, are you sure it was clamped down tight enough? No shell should move anywhere when it is pushed.

AMink, How ya doing. Can't wait till I have my Caravan installed in January. I apreciate all the help I got from you and Sarj.

The Raven was a seperate brand line and didn't say Glasstite on it anywhere but later on I was told it was made by Glasstite. The Raven was clamped down really well and never moved on the bed. The fiberglass was quite thin and would definetly deflect under pressure on the sides around the window. This was an economy cap - I think it was $700 new. I'm not trying to hit Glasstite- I saw their stuff recently and it was good, but I think the Jeraco is better. This cap is boat hull quality- knock it with a knuckle and it's SOLID!

I've been watching this thread as I am getting ready to buy a shell as well. I have all but decided on a Snug Top Xtra Vision. Bloody expensive, though. So I am watching for options. This thread caused me to look into the Glasstite. Stopped by what was supposed to be my local dealer who stated that they no longer sell Glasstite for a few reasons. I felt he was honest with me since he did not try to push another brand on me, he just gave me their reasons for no longer selling Glasstite. Apparently about 6 months ago, Glasstite sold to another company who immediately instituted a delivery charge and then would not guarantee a time frame for delivery. The dealer was told that delivery would occur when Glasstite had enough shells to deliver a full load. Secondly, Glasstite dropped its lifetime warranty for paint and finish. The third issue was the dealer felt the overall quality was no longer the same. Needless to say I was a bit bummed as I liked the look of the one I saw on this thread, plus I saw two Glasstite's on a toyota and a chevy. They looked nice and seemed to match well. But I suspect these shells were a year or two old. So to those that own a Glasstite, have you purchased it very recently or do you think you got one prior to them selling? It also seems some brands are only available in certain areas of the country. Some of the shells posted on here are not available out in California and I suspect some of you have never seen a "Vision" or "Innovation" brand shell. This dealer also told me that they recently found out that the "Raider" brand is owned by Leer. Anyone else heard this?

I would hope it was my Glasstite that you liked. Actually, mine is off my good friends 03 that he traded in. The dealer wasn't about to give him much for it and since it was the exact color I needed, I bought it. Mine is one of the "good ones". Perfect color match and built to last. Be cautious of the "Innovation" shell. Ive seen 2 that have had rear glass door problems. As for Glasstite wanting to wait for a "full load" before they make a delivery, that is why there isn't a SnugTop on my truck. I got the same line from Caveman RV when I wanted one asap for my truck. It was a month wait. Needless to say, I took the deal on my Glasstite and Im really glad I did. Don't get me wrong, SnugTop is a 1st class shell. I think the quality isn't what it was 10 or 20 years ago though. Might I suggest that anyone looking to buy a shell, take a look at the ones in your area that have been in use on trucks that are a few years old. See how they have heald up. Thats about all I can say.

Quick question, are you guys seeing much of a mpg change when you put these tops on. I heard that with the camper shells people are getting worse mpg as opposed to just the hard bed covers actually getting better mpg. Although the full shell is much more usefull. I was thinking along the lines of the super sloped back shell ("top gun"?) but I didn't see any pics or much mention of it.

Don't forget this about Height.....

As one gets older - the taller shells -IMO-are a must - you can get in them and not be on your hands and knees... ... . also they don't look like a suburban or something like that... ...

And it allows your best friends lots of headroom...

I just saw you guys talkin' bout the shells. The caravan is sweet. I highly recommend it for a strong utility shell. The double doors make it easy getting in and out with my trailer or boat hooked up. The quality smokes everything else I saw out there, and I looked at everything for about 6 months. It's raining here today. When it clears up, I'll see if I can get a picture or two into the gallery, but I'll tell you, pictures don't do it justice.

Caravan... There made in Reno, Super strong pricey but very well made.

I guess Im just old fashon but, ..... I like the clean look of a fiberglass shell to give the truck the look of a Suburban. These things remind me of the old Gem Tops. No flame here, just not my idea of something I would put on a $40k + truck
