My latest oil analysis revealed a trace of fuel in the oil. I'm wondering what the source might be.
I'm aware of concept that excessive idling will result in fuel washing down the walls of the cylinders and getting past the rings. But I don't let it sit and idle for extended periods - just what we all do at stop lights, etc. (its my daily driver). I run the 370's and due to the spray angle, that may contribute. But I've run these injectors for probably a good 40K miles and this is the first time this has shown up in an analysis.
I suppose I've developed a head gasket leak (ohhhh noooo!) but no evidence of oil or fuel in the coolant (yet!). The head and gasket are virgin but I put ARP studs in last fall.
Is there a possible source in the pump? Anything else?
My oil (Amzoil) had 9000 miles on it, which is way more than I normally let it go - usually change it at 4K to 5K miles. So I'm hoping its just build up from excessive miles.
Any suggestions on what to check?
TIA,
-Jay
