At 5,000 miles I replaced my rear end fluid with Amsoil Series 2000 75-90w. I did not put any friction modifier in. I am now at 6,000 miles and when make low speed turns I here a groaning coming from the rear end. Today I went to the dealer and got some friction modifier. I put in about 2 oz. My question is how long does it take for the friction modifier to take effect? I have read in previous posts that you have to keep adding it until the noise goes away. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Paul, How are the Yankees going to do this year? #ad

Seriously, the service manual says to make about 10 figure 8's to work the modifier into the clutch packs.

On the 2001 truck manual it read to put in 6% modifier. If your amsoil already has some in you'll have to trial and error abit.
Paul could you post how much modifier you added to the amsoil to settle down that diff.
May give some of us an idea where to start. Thanks

I added 3 quarts and 12 ounces of Amsoil. Today I put in about 2 ounces of friction modifier. I don't want to put to much friction modifier in because the Amsoil supposedly has it already. Does normal driving, including making plenty of turns, mix the fluid up or do you have to do figure eights?

Stock until paid off--Good will power!!

After an oil change on my 98 Dana 80, (with no modifier)the diff began locking on the corners. I added two bottles of modifier and went on a little highway trip. After the trip every thing was fine.

Trucknut, I traded in a 99 3/4 ton Suburban for my Ram. I have a pretty small balance before it is paid off. The way my dealer has been treating me with my brake problem though I might start bombing at 20,000 miles.

Strange. I changed my rear diff oil and used amsoil 75w90 and did not need any additive. 3100+ on my 2000 and no problems. My son did the same to his 99 and he has 73000+ no problems. Looks like some need the additive and some don't. Explain that.

With ANY oil change you need to do those figure 8's!
Mine works fine with Amsoil only.
I have had ten guys at least call with that problem, all brands, do the 8's and no more problems.

Experienced exactly the same problem. Changed diff fluid to Amsoil Series 2000 75W90 and shortly therafter experienced shudder while turning, forward or reverse. Did thousands of S turns but the chatter didnt stop until I added the mopar friction modifier (2 bottles).

Do not blindly add 2 bottles of modifier. start with a half bottle ( 2 oz ) if you do have some chatter and work your way till no chatter. If you add more than is needed you will be posting and cussing that pos LSD you paid for but does not work and you are stuck with the r/r wheel on the wet grass and the l/r wheel on dry pavement and you are stuck.

Installed a Mag-Hytec Cover on my Dana 80 last weekend and filled it with 7 quarts of LE-9920, 75W-140 Synthetic and 8 oz of friction modifier. Based upon the Service Manual, I probably should have added a couple ounces more than I did, but am not experiencing any "hopping", etc.
