2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake leak seeking advice

I recently changed my rear dif. oil to Amsoil 75/90, and it immediately started making noise going around corners. I then added 8 oz. of friction modifier, did some figure 8s and all was good.

A few days later I had to back-up around my u-shaped driveway, and I could hear and feel limited slip (LS) chattering. I thought it would probably go away with more driving, but after 3K miles, it's still the same. But only in reverse.

Have any of you guys had this problem?

Should I just add more modifier? I've heard too much will make the LS less effective, true?

Do I need to do figure 8s in reverse, before I try adding more modifier? It's just noisy enough I'm concerned it might hurt something by doing that. Will it?

TIA for any input on this, Ray

98 12V, dually.

Are you sure it isn't the reverse band slipping?

I don't think it would be that because it still does it when it's coasting going backwards. Like when I'm backing down a steep boat ramp, only using brakes, and making steering corrections, I still hear it.

Thanks for the reply,

Ray

Mine is starting to do the same thing. I put Royal Purple in mine. I got about 20000 on this change. It only does it in reverse while turning. Backing up straight it does not do it.

Did you add friction modifier, and did yours start making noise as soon you changed over to Royal Purple? Or did it start later?

With mine, I not so much hear it as I do feel it, in rev. Is that the same with yours?

TIA, Ray

I had to add a little at the beginning because it was doing it in forward when I drove figure eights. That was about 20000 miles ago, but now it is starting to do it in reverse. I'm just wondering if the royal purple is wearing out with dino oil I got a lot more miles at of it.

Mine did the same thing after putting in Mobil 1. It only chattered in reverse while cutting the wheel sharp. Just add a little more friction modifier. I would start with a half tube and see if it is enough. If it still doesn't correct the problem, add the rest of the tube. Good luck.
