my truck didnt come with LS . dealer says he will install this for 747. 00. however im apprehensive about having some idiot work on my truck. options? opinions? i do tow often /5r 15000 lb. my truck is a 04 3500 srw 4x4 auto thank you in advance!

i ordered mine with out the limited slip so i could get the locker when it comes out. i think it would be money well spent to wait for the locker

I agree, the old Dana (un)limited sucked, unless you took it apart and put the fiber/steel clutches into a better order. But Dodge is using a different one now without clutch plates. click here From what I found doing research, it shoulds like the hot setup. Here is where to find more info

Of course I don't know for sure they are in the trucks. My dealer said they are different then the old limited slip (its now called antislip as well), Any body want to pull the cover on there rear and see if it has 2 pins for the spider gears?

I actually like the factory LSD. It isn't as good as GM's G80 locker in an AAM axle but it is a far cry better than the LSD that came in my '99 F-350. I'm not sure that there are too many options other than the factory unit right now. I also do not think that an air locker is right for most people. I think reall diff locks like that should be reserved for serious off-road adventures. They are all but useless for a mainly street driven truck. You would have to activate the locker at low speeds and de-activate it above about 20 mph. The LSD is transparent in its operation and, I think, plenty effective for most people.

I would prefer a shop that specializes in differential work. Getting the initial set-up makes all the difference. On the other hand if you buy the factory part and have a dealer install it you have some leverage if there is a problem.

Get in some mud with LSD and see how hard it is to get out. I envision a locker strickly for low mph ,getting out of bad terrain ect, not to be running high speed. ARB is working on one for our AAM 11. 5 but don't hold your breath.

I agree with you guys, I only have had two situations where the anti-spin did not engage. Both were at a dead stop, one on snow and the other on wet grass. Other than that the anti spin has been worthwhile. The fords limited slip is way worse than what we have, the clutches actually wear out. I would be fond of a full detroit in the back and a arb up front. I could not deal with having a one wheel peeler for a truck.

I had the limited slip in all of my other trucks and didn't get it in this truck. :{ I absolutely hate not having it. As the saying goes "you don't know what you got until its gone".

I had it in a early 90's furd 150 with a 6cyl stick. Got stuck in leaves, the LSD worked about 10 seconds, enough for the truck to slide sideways enough to get stuck even worse, then it switched to an open rear and lsd never worked again.

My 98 dodge was OK but my 2002 lsd rear is junk. Just pulling up the 20% grade concrete driveway one wheel will spin when its wet! I was amazed when they said to test it, lock 1 wheel, jack up the other and put truck in "N". Put a torque wrench on it the wheel in the air and turn, if it takes more then 35psi the rear is good!

LSD has its problems also, in PA all the back roads are crowned, in the snow LSD will cause the rear of the truck to slide off the edge of the road.

I had to pull through a 15 foot stretch of sand when making a turn in the desert. The LS was spinning but got me through it! I was at 22K gcw.
