Well, sorta like when you nail the throttle there SHOULD be two very distinctive/very black streaks left as the vehicle slowy moves ahead whilst the rear tire do their thing. Oo. :D

It should NOT chatter when cornering the vehicle with the lube oil hot.

If you jack up the rear and attempt to spin one tire... ..... the other'n is going to rotate the SAME direction :)

limmited slip

truck is a 97, go no answer there so thought I would ask here.

when going up a wet grassy hill only one wheel spins, if i back off the throttle and then increase throttle the tires will spin 1/2 a turn stop and spin 1/2 turn etc. truck will jump and shutter and would shake apart if I keep going. I didn't think this was correct.

It sounds to me like you don't have Limited Slip.

If you raise the rear off the floor you can turn a wheel and the opposite one will rotate in the OPPOSITE direction if you have an open diff.

It's just easier to look at the trucks equipment sticker and/or tag to determine the diff style.

Yes it is limited slip. the gear oil is black and will be changing it to rp. But not sure what the problem might be. not sure exactly how it should work.

Does the truck shudder any when you take off at a corner? That is one of the problems with the limited slip setups when the fluid gets old. Just for info, I used RP in my truck for a year or two and had to add the dodge additive to keep it from shuddering. Lots of guys say it isn't needed, same with the Amsoil, but I have always had to run it. The rear end was rebuilt about 4 years ago and works good, just wants to shudder. I also went to Amsoil and after about 6 months it started shuddering again even with the additive. I have drained the synthetic lube out and replaced it with Vavoline 75-140 with new additive and everything is working nice and smooth. From here on I will run a good regular gear lube and change it every year or so. With the Maghitec rear end cover it is easy to drain and refill.

After I changed the oil in the rear diff on mine, I got the BAD shudder around corners when loaded. It felt like I was on a cobblestone street, shook the whole truck bad. I put Ford limited slip additive in and the problem went away. In case you all are curious, I used the Ford stuff because it seems to have a good reputation for doing what it's supposed to.
