Competition Line lock for racing

Does anyone have experience with using a line-lock for staging an automatic race truck? I broke my left (braking, ha ha) leg :( , and am trying to figure out how to get back on the track before the end of the season.

Specifically, can I use that brake to hold the truck while I build 20lbs of boost, then bump it forward just a couple of inches to fully stage?



If this isn't possible, does anyone know a doctor who can put me in a small "racing cast"?? :D

Yeah they work good, the only problem is you wont have time to sit in the lights and lock your line lock before the starter drops the tree... . maybe you can bribe the starter to let you sit there a few seconds, cause once you lock the line like your not going to move forward.

That's gonna be hard to do. The way a line lock works, is very simple.



First, you install an electric solenoid in-line with your front brakes. The solenoid is a simple Open/closed,, You want the Solenoid to be "normally open". Most Line-lock solenoids take about 1-amp to operate.



After properly wiring, (with relays) the solenoid. The concept is, to build pressure in the brake lines, and then "close" the solenoid. The idea is once you close the solenoid, then release the brakes, the pressure to the front brakes will stay "trapped" and will hold the brakes with the same pressure you had applied before.



Now, With the front brakes applied to your desired pressure, you rev up your motor, build boost, or whatever you have to do, and when you are ready to go, you release your switch, and within 1/10th/sec the front brakes will release, and you will be on your way.



Now,, Taking that concept,, there isn't really a way to release, and re-apply the brakes with the solenoid. The only way to build pressure in your brake lines again, is to actually step on the brake pedal, and then "trap" the pressure again by "closing" the solenoid.

As said above it wouldn't work for what you are trying to do. First, you'd have to have 2 line locks - one for the front and one for the rear. If you are launching in 4wd I'd be worried about them releasing at the same time to avoid driveline strain. As Merrick said you have to apply the brakes first and then engage the line lock and then you can release the pedal. I use mine on my manual truck for the burnout and then to hold me from rolling once I'm staged but I don't try to use it to build boost.

Thanks for the information everybody! That was an interesting read on the trans brakes... :( I bet if I went for that, the Kondolays would finally start denying they ever met me! :D

I guess it looks like I'll just have to wait a couple of weeks until I know the bone has started to heal, then wrap it up tight and go for it. At least it didn't happen earlier in the year, but it did stop me from racing for Team Mission at the ET finals in Ashcroft... :{ :{

Only if she is launching in 4x4.



The opposite is true if launching in 2x4
