line x vs. rhino

i have line x sprayed over the rail to match the patriot blue. love it. have a couple of spots where dirt bike scratched. spray paint covers nicely. since both wife and i ride our own big twins noise reduction isnt important. line x was nicely feathered to a smooth transition from liner to truck bed. rhino i looked at was thick, ugly and just looked terrible. fit and finish was not acceptable

Rhinoliner

I have the Rhinoliner (gray to match truck) in my truck for 3 yrs. It is real durable, no scratches, holds cargo well, good cold resistance but it faded and stained slightly.

I would use it again but in black.

I've thrown just about everything you can at my Rhino Liner for the last 3 or 4 years and it is holding up great. No complaints, great traction when standing and working in the bed.

SEMS easy for do it yourselfers

Used SEMS product bedliner on a ton of things from my jeep to various projects for customers. Reasonable price, veritile, and can be tinted any color you can buy paint in. I think Line X is probably better, but big $$$ difference. This works, and is easy to patch should you need.

Line-x here. Have had it on 4 trucks so far. Very happy with it. Cynderblocks, stone, dirt; you name it and it's been in my bed (well, at least the last truck). No issues. My latest lining was done by a relative new comer in the business and he sprayed the best yet.

They all work about the same.

I have the Rhino for 3 years now, no problems. perhaps one small gouge, but they will fix for free, if I bothered to bring it in. Has not really faded, and I have also spilled lots of stuff on it. Fuels, oils, etc. .

Worth the money to me.

Line-X

I tossed this same idea around last summer and finally decided on the Line-X. The biggest deciding factor for myself was the fact that Line-X has a nationwide warranty and Rhino only with the dealer who sprays it. Also, around where I live I looked at many trucks with different spray-ins and liked the quality of the Line-X spray much more. They took off all tie-downs, and even the cover on the tailgate so all the screws are accessible for maintenance, as the Rhino installers just sprayed over everything. It was just a cleaner job, cost was a bit more for Line-X, but worth it to me. You can read about both of them on their web-sites as well. Just my . 02

Any thoughts on which is better & why?

I had a Rhino on my 1500 which I liked quite a bit, but I hear the Line-X is great also.

I agree with other comments, that the preparation and attention to detail during istallation is most important. I have to take my service truck back next week to have some areas touched up due to the fact of poor adhesion. My rhino liner has taken much abuse since installing it in 2000. I haul engines, trans. ,diff. ect. The fact that it is not slippery was what sold me on it. I called the dealer last week and they said to bring it in and the warranty will cover it. We now have a Line-x dealer in the area and it looks like they do a good job .

Turboliner

Dave Smith Motors installer a Turboliner in my '07. Kind of a cross between Line-X and Rhino. Actually liked my Rhino the best. Either one with a rubber bedmat works pretty well. A slide in bedliner and bedmat would probably be best however for serious hauling. Pretty bulletproof.

Rhino: 100% polyurethane, tear strength 145 pli, temp tolerance 175 degrees, uses a cold/low pressure application system, softer at Shore A 92. 5, gels in 30 to 45 seconds, dries in 45 minutes, cures in 24 hours. Optional UV topcoat is called Rhino Shine. It will eventually peel off the liner and must be reapplied (the consumer can buy a bottle of it and do it themselves). It's thick and not fun to apply.

LINE-X: Polyurethane/polyurea blend, tear strength 304 pli, temp tolerance 250 degrees, uses a heat/high pressure application system (for better adhesion and a more uniform looking final texture), harder at Shore D 45, dries in 4 seconds (thus follows the bed’s contours much better), cures in 24 hours. Several UV products are available: Ultra Shield, Nason, or Xtra. All are one-time applications, Xtra is the best (made by Dupont only for LINE-X, contains a Kevlar micro pulp for extreme durability).

How about some pics!

I have one of each: One with Rhino and one with Line-X. As someone said above, the Line-X is applied HOT, and is tougher than Rhino. In my opinion, the Line-X looks much better. The Rhino looks kinda like a bunch of big goobers. The Line-X is a more refined crinkle finish. My new 2006 MegaCab dually has line-X over the rails, plus I had my running boards coated too so they wouldn't be slippery. LOVE IT.

As for chalking, they all will given enough time. Armour all, or any tire protectant will make it look like new again, but you have to continue to treat it. My Rhino is 3 years old and it is chalked pretty bad. I just lightly mist it with tire shine or armour-all and it looks like new.

Given the same costs, I'd go with the line-X every time.

You won't need that tire stuff if you choose LINE-X with Xtra. It resists fading, loss of gloss, increased abrasion and stain resistance, extremely durable (contains a Kevlar micro pulp) and looks really sharp. Costs a little more though.

Had Line-X on an older truck, current one I have Full Metal Jacket by SPI... . polyurea hyrid, same stuff that is sprayed on military equipment for armor protection known as Dragon Shield.

No complaints with either one, FMJ is certainly better. :)

I must agree with mediccummin, to a great extent it depends on how well the spray-on liner is applied. I have had both Line-X and Rhino. The line-X was applied in VERY humid conditions which is very rare in Denver CO by an inexperienced shop and the Rhino applied by an experienced shop in the normally low humidity of Colorado. Line-X was so soft I could tear it with my thumb nail, the Rhino is tough and resilient. Oo.

The shop that sprayed in my Line-X did a crappy job, the liner could be scrapped out with a thumb nail. The Shop refused to make any repairs. They SUCK. My Rhino is awsome!

had some issues with independent dealers. We got the gun, very cheap, and the SEMS kit. Prepped it ourselves, so it was done with care. Learning curve was easy. Got alot of info on the net. All you need is a compressor and a place to work. Ive used it on everything. We are after all our own warrantee.

rhino... just had mine done under rails and all. . love it looks great, grips good, just tell the fools what your using it for and they'll make yours a little more durable id suppose.

That's not normal, sounds like the chemicals did not mix correctly. It should have been replaced under warranty.

Full Metal Jacket is a 100% polyurea product. Rhino is 100% polyurethane, and LINE-X is a blend of polyurethane and polyurea. Both polyurethane and polyurea give the bedliner desirable properties and make for the best bedliner products.

IMHO Line-X is the best. I have had both (in different trucks) and the finish of the Line-X was top notch! The rhino liner looks like crap. . They both did their job...

I had a Rhino, and it looked great for the first year or so. Then it turned gray, and it suffered from deep gouges. I thought that it gouged to the metal very easily - to easily. I'll never do a Rhino liner again.
