RoadMaster Active Suspension. Thoughts Opinions

The Jayco Designers were wood framed through the model year 2000. 2001 and later Designers are aluminum framed. Jayco made this change because of the market perception that wood framed units were somehow inferior, despite the fact that high line 5th wheels such as Teton were wood framed until they finally folded.

That's exactly what happened at NuWa with the HitchHikers. Public perception created by Elkhart brand advertising convinced the gullible public that aluminum was better. Aluminum joints will crack. Wood joints will flex. Cost and weight are very close.

It will be interesting to see what they do regarding frame sources in light of this development. Our Designers utilized Leland Engineering frames and Dexter suspension, and we never had any problems with either.

Rusty, I rolled under mine before I bought it to check it out. I put 'I know it's junk' in my signature because I was being ridiulous. We looked at an 07 Mobile Suite, but the gross on it was 15k. EW 12500. My truck is rated to pull a 12500 trailer. I don't want to overload it. That where troubles begin. The Lexion more or less took the place of the Designer, which is what we were really looking for. So far it has been a good rig. The Lipperd motor on the rear jacks went bad, was not sealed and got water in it. It pulls much smother than the 02 Jayco. It is by no means a low end, but a middle to upper end.

Had I had your truck I would have gone with the MB it is really a nice unit.

Yes, they are. Lippert manufactures and sells a lot of cheap junk that looks okay when new and works okay until the warranty has expired.

Warranties are a big problem with Lippert there is basicly "NONE" - - - most equipment is "til it leaves the dealer lot" or 5 feet what ever comes first ever comes first, then don't expect a return phone call all they have is inbound voice mail , lots of luck- - - then lots of luck - - that has been my experience with lippert!
