Sled Puller Vandalized...

Someone had posted about Dukes of Hazzard so I thought I would share my favorite...

I found out a few months ago that they released all 7 seasons of Little House on DVD. Now, before you laugh at me let me first state that I am not into all of the garbage they have on TV nowadays. It seems like most everything portrays men has stupid fumbling idiots and teaches women they have to be sexy and loose to be popular. I miss the days when there were good wholesome family shows on TV that did not have to resort to sex to get ratings... I use to watch Little House all the time when I was growing up and related to a lot of it as I lived in Minnesota and my family were farmers.

My wife and I have gone through seasons 1 and 2 and we have just ordered season 3. I cannot get enough of it. I have a wacky dream of becoming a farmer and living off the land like they did back in the 1800's. I am always telling my wife I was born 100 years too late.

Actually, do not know why I am posting... Guess I am a gluten for punishment.

Don't go too hard on yourself Phil, I confess I watched an episode myself recently (the one of Mary getting married). I too watched it all the time growing up, and I read all Laura's books (most of them more than once). Sometimes the show is too sappy for me but I always loved the encounters with the Olsens :D I liked Michael Landon and thought it was too bad when he passed away.

Someday I hope to travel through South Dakota where the Ingalls settled. My two favorite books were "By the Shores of Silver Lake" and "The Long Long Winter. "

My wife and I spent a weekend camping up by DeSmet last summer. The Wilder sites are pretty interesting. I agree with the asessment of most of today's TV. I really find myself watching TLC or Discovery or HGTV and just turning it off otherwise.

Let me preface this by saying, my wife is a huge fan of little house. In case you guys did not know the weekend before last (Easter weekend) channel 5 ABC, had a two hour special remake of little house, the first of a 5 part series It showed them back living where ever they came from before they moved to thier new place and the trip. It was pretty good, I tivo'd the episode that was on last Saturday at 8:00PM, I have not watched it yet, anyway there are 3 more to go, Saturday night at 8:00OPM EST.

I watched Little House when I was growing up. Haven't seen the latest attempt. My mom watched some of it, and she said it was pretty pathetic. She said Michael Landon would be disappointed.

I live 30 minutes from Laura's house in Mansfield Missouri. They have a neat museum and you can tour both houses. Her daughter built them a new home around the corner from the old one but she never liked it and moved back into the little house that Alonzo built. The house is as she left it when she passed away. The museum has the old fiddle and a bunch of other things mentioned in her books. She was a very little lady and then house was built with the cabinets real short just to fit her. It's worth the entry fee to see if your ever driving down 60 hwy or in the Springfield/Branson area it's about an hour east of Springfield down 60.

I didn't have much use for "Little House" back in the day, my wife insisted on watching it back in the early 80's after we got married and it drove me nuts. Kind of like the Waltons, wasn't something I enjoyed much.

However, in recent years I have gotten sick of the dreck that Hollywood sludges up our TVs with, and have been watching old shows on Hallmark channel and some of the others. I had NO IDEA how good those shows were, Little House is head and shoulders over most of the new stuff.

I have been really enjoying the "Have Gun, Will Travel" DVD set that I got for Christmas. Most of the episodes are awesome, there are a few clunkers but overall it is impressive how much story they could cram into 30 minutes. I'll have to look for the Little House ones too

I've been there before. :) Quite a few years ago, though.
