Dyno Numbers?

MBPR hardware FYI

Take it easy Jim, just playing around. Before this HX-55, I was also running a set of J. R. 's twins, an HX-40 and a HT4C. This combo flat out hauled _ss! So I kind of took a step backwards to, but I wanted the 55 for sledpulling. This is a great turbo for anyone wanting a daily driver and a weekend sledpuller.

It seems the single turbo is the way to pull now as Twins have gone to those with lots of $'s.

Can you guys pull with a 55 and put an external wastegate in to keep from popping it with lots of fuel?

Jim

Yep that is about what you have to do. In order to run twins you have to have crazy power to be competitive, or run a single charger.

Travis

No one has popped a 55 to my knowledge. If you don't have a lot of $, it's probably best to run with single charger. But there's alot of competion in the street class, so you better be on top of your game.

Were these results from street "playing" ? or on a track? I have seen much different numbers when hooked to a sled with a couple of different turbos, than coud be seen on the street.

So do you guys get to run an external wastegate? If so that would save the turbo... ... ... are you sure you guys have enough fuel Oo.

What turbo is Ryan Melby running, it's it a single!

Jim

I'd say I'm running alot of fuel I guess, and I havent broke the charger. Its had some sled hooks, drag racing, pretty much done everything with it. I am hard on the truck, and run it hard every day. I cant complain one bit, its takes everything I throw at it. If I could start a dyno run at less than 2200 it would easily go over 600hp. I have ran it for almost a year now with no problems, so I would say JR has a good product. - Dave

I don't think Ryan will tell you what he is running, but the last time I heard his truck was For Sale. If you wanted to get into Sled Pulling Jim.

I can definetely testify that DLange throws everything he can at the 'ol Redneck Dream. I heard that a sled driver said he had to much track speed once and slammed on the brakes to the sled :--) He even lets his younger brother drive it once in a while!!!

The turbo on Milby's truck is not streetable, according to EEP, way to big. They won't tell what it is, but they will build you one for some $. My truck will be getting alot more fuel in another month and I'm sure the 55 will do just fine :D

i've got the lil 55 and it is a great charger for sledpulling and towing or just whatever. i have run alot of chargers and have yet to have one move this much air. b1's and 40's i couldn't tow with and the 55 i can tow whatever. i do have it for sale as i'm going to step up to twins.

Anybody seen a price tag on Milbys truck?

There is more than one version of this turbo, I'm running the smallest version. My 55 uses an HX-40 exhaust housing and that is the only HX-40 parts used on these turbo's. There are no HX-40 parts used in the inside at all. The bigger version will use an HX-55 exhaust housing.

ever see a T3/T4 hybrid? most of them run T04 turbine wheels... pretty much the only thing that's T3 on them is the turbine housing...

if you've got an HX55 with an HX40 turbine housing on it, it's an HX55/40 hybrid.

Forrest

Forrest,

So using a 40 exhaust housing makes it a 55/40 hybrid? I could see if it uses HX-40 parts for the internals, but it doesn't. I'll let J. R. know that you renamed his turbo for him :-laf The important thing is that it runs really well for a big single.

bgilbert,

It uses a 16cm waste gated housing. It doesn't take a huge amount of fuel to run it. What are you running now for fuel?

Bpostel, I'm probly in the neighborhood of 300-350 now to the ground. With the long term goal of 500 for my VE powered truck. I don't want to keep buying turbo's as I get more power, I'd rather buy the one at the long term goal.
