Load to Anchorage Alaska?

I put a bid in to haul a 10ft. wide 2ft. tall ,1,100 lb personell basket from Corpus Christi to Anchorage. 4,400 miles. The load if shipped by hot shot will not leave till mid to late March. I drove to Calagary several years back for

El Paso (an oil and gas company). Has anybody stateside driven up thru Canada to Anchorage? Im looking for what to expect in good weather conditions. Road Conditions, fuel stop distances, repair facilties , grades to climbe etc...



Bid price (I matched) was $14,100. 00. My original price was $18,300.



When considering, fuel, permits, motels, insurance etc... I dont know if it will be worth it.





Any constuctive input would be appreciated.

I have not driven the alcan in the winter, but I have driven in the tourist off season. The fuel stops are not that big of a deal. Just stop whenever you are close to half tank or below to make sure you have enough to reach the next stop. I passed a stop because it was three in the afternoon and did not find another motel that was open until two in the morning. That was the biggest problem for me. There are a couple mountain passes coming up through Washington to get onto the alcan. I do not think it would be unmanagable at all. Fuel is more expensive in Canada so there might be a cost savings in bringing some fuel cans with you.

Don't forget, you now need a passport to cross the border. Other than that, have a nice ride, wish I was going. I've made the roundtrip 3 times towing from Pa. with no problems.

No passport need at this time. Only needed for air travel now but in 2008 everyone will need a passport. The Canadians are concerned about this slowing down the tourist travel into Canada.

No Passport needed is correct, however I would highly recommend one. My wife and I made the trip to Alaska this past summer with passports and did not have any problems or delays. In fact, we never even had our truck and camper searched nor most of the time asked for proof of insurance and vehicle registration. . All of our crossing in and out of Canada were totally hassle free unlike other trips in and out of Canada and Alaska.
