Gas War

A Must See - Non Political - CLEAN Video.....

I put a bid in to haul a 10ft. wide 2ft. tall ,1,100 lb personell basket from Corpus Christi to Anchorage. 4,400 miles. The load ,if shipped by hot shot ,will not leave till mid to late March. I drove to Calagary several years back for El Paso (an oil and gas company). Has anybody stateside driven up thru Canada to Anchorage? Im looking for what to expect in good weather conditions. Road Conditions, fuel stop distances, repair facilties , grades to climb etc...

Bid price (I matched) was $14,100. 00. My original price was $18,300.

When considering, fuel, permits, motels, insurance etc... I dont know if it will be worth it.

Any constuctive input would be appreciated.

Jeeze I would have bid that load with a big truck for 5500. 00 so I wouldnt worry too much about small trip exspenses like tolls. In a pickup you should be able to clear 12,000 for 2 weeks of slow driving work and thats if you dont get a backhaul load. It sounds more like you want a pat on the back for getting such a load rather than advice on the trip. Well congrats! Crap likes this makes me wonder why I even try.

Well lets see about profit mr. know it all.

$14,161. 00 minus LoneStars 17% of linehaul, $1,421 insurance surcharge ,$800 or so for permits, +- $1900 for fuel, $800 for motels (can only drive permits loads during day light hours) food, extra spare tires for trailer and truck, and most likely and new set by the time I get back (from what ive read) I will profit around $5,032 dollars. Thats if nothing breaks.

So if you would like to come get this 10 foot wide basket in mid March, I will pay you $8,000. 00. I'll keep the extra $6,000 as a finders fee.

come get it Super Trucker.

Like I said, any constructive advice would be appreciated.

jnelson, where did you come across that one? I've just about had it trying trying to find stuff worthwhile around here, no one wants to pay squat lately it seems. Couple hauling buddys said to stick it out for a month or two, stuff should come back around. Sick and tired of paying $600 a month just for insurance on the dually to watch it sit with my trailer behind it.

Forgive my lack of knowledge here, but could you weld up framework to haul this load either vertical or on a slant to avoid the wide load permit and stay under 13. 6ft. ?

Good luck, RJ

That was going to be my idea also as you mentioned moparguy. Our dispatcher said he used to stack railroad ties and slap a peice of rubber on them to get to the width. I haul these baskets quite often but usually no farther than Louisiana. I believe a frame is in the near future. But the customer will be the the final judge of that. This company is only 1 of 2 companies in at least this hemisphere that manufactures these and other offshore speacialty safety products.

I did however let the load go. I'll let somebody else worry about it. If they decide to ship to Seattle, I'll take it up there.
