Calling all electrical engineers.

I'm trying to find a connecter supplier for some connectors on a Ram. I need to extend a few circuits without cutting/splicing. I have located the design of the connector in the shop manual. Anyone know how I can go about locating a supplier for the connectors.

Thanks,
Eddie

Toolman:

I've been in the electronic connector business for a little over 27 years now. You won't have much luck going to the manufacturer because of the volume you'd be talking about. A lot of connectors are custom made for the industry too. Your best bet (in my opinion) would be to check with an electronics distributor. Newark has a lot of outlets, you may want to look for one in your area.

I believe that is as close to saying the D word Bill can come:

Is that true, DC will supply 'just' connectors?

I am looking for ignition harness connectors (under steering column) for my turbo cooldown module to be integrated with the SPA EGT gauge. This might go commercial, these connectors are the last part of the puzzle.

I am looking for the connectors to the TPS to make my own fast idle&fixed fuel'd cruise combo gadget based on some old input from MARCO and some ideas in another recent thread. This will likely not go commercial.

If the connectors you're looking for are the Weatherpak/Metripak type produced by Packard Electric, they can purchased through a company called "Waytek" out of Minnesota. I don't have their webpage address handy, but they do have one. I found them most pleasant to deal with and their minimum quantities aren't too bad. They also stock a number of things I've seen members ask for like special battery terminal ends. They also carry the proper crimping tools for those connectors should you need them.

Ok, time for more details...

I'm trying to relocate the AC/Heater controls down to where the ashtray is in order to mount a really cool 3-gauge pod that I'm designing. I think it will be the ultimate position for the gauges. Three gauges will just barely fit. Great visibility! No safety issues to worry with like if the gauges are mounted on the pillar and you're involves in an accident. I don't want to wear a EGT ;-)

The wires going into the back of the AC/Heater control aren't quite long enough to reach that far. The good news is the vacuum lines for the vent selector is plenty long. Also the void created by moving the controls is very deep. Lots of room for wiring, access, etc.

The AC/Heater control will fit in the ashtray opening with a little "custom" housing.

The only downside to the design is the controls are angled downward, but that is minor verses what is gained.

I was hoping to offer a commercial solution but I really need to find the male/female connectors to make this feasible. The rest is easy.

Comments?

COOL!

I hate all that dead space in front of the 5 spd. Currently my panel is out as I am trying to craft something to hold the PE,ESPAR, and some aux switches, etc.

Eddie,I think the easiest way to do what you've got going is just to splice the wires longer.
I personally prefer solder and shrink tubing over crimp connectors. Solder will be cleaner for you especially since you will need two splices per wire. It will probably take less time to splice the wires than it takes to find the right connectors.

David,I know for a fact that the stealer will supply some of the connectors. I ordered one for the cruise servo just yesterday, they said it was available. I've known others that have bought the TPS connecter and have heard it mentioned here also, the price isn't too bad either.

I don't know if this helps.
The manfr of all the connectors for the Cummins is Deutsch U. S. A.
I think they call the connectors IPD series.

I Just recently got a Boost senser plug from Cummins. It had a lolder and Heat shrink tube for the wires so it was better then a Crimp on one. I noticed that there were a lot of plugs available in a catalog.

Hope this helps

A lot of the OEM connectors are from Yazaki. This company produces many of the wire harnesses in your Ram and use their own connector.
