I have a post "Now it won't start" on my 89 CTD and have it narrowed down to the fuel shut off solinoid but now I'm not sure. Standing on the driver side looking at the injector pump I saw a wire going to what I thought was the solinoid below the pump. Disconnected the wire and unscrewed the end. There was a rod sticking out the end of the (solinoid?), a black plunger and a spring. I entergized the valve and grounded the unit and nothing happened (rod did not move). So I thought that was my problem, as I am about to order the $111. 00 solinoid I saw another wire going to another solinoid on the top/rear of the injector pump that looked like it could be a fuel shut off solinoid. Could someone tell me which is the fuel shut off solinoid and what the other one is?

Thanks,

Solenoid

The fuel shut off solenoid is located at the back of the injection pump just above the steel lines going to the injectors. The other solenoid on the side of the pump near the power steering is the KSB solenoid.

John, the shut of solenoid is the one on the rear of the pump that you can barely get a wrench on. They could have made it easier to get at!

I got mine off without pulling the throttle setup but it was a bear. Had to make a special wrench to get to the body, had to grind it thin and narrow and bend at 90 degrees +. If you pull the linkage, cut the top of the bracket off so it will be easier to get to in the future. Look at it and you will see what I mean. (if it is the same as my 93) Don't destroy the wire attachment on the top, I had to reuse mine as the new one didn't have one.
