Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Location of rear axle ratio info?

I am seriously thinking about buying a 99 with a NV4500 manual and want to know if it has a 3. 55 or 4. 10. I looked in the glove box and there is no sticker. How could I tell what gear ratio it has?

Check the sticker on the bottom side of the hood, if not there there will be a steel data tag between two of the bolts on the diff cover that has the ratio stamped on it.

Pop the hood and look up. That's where my sticker is. There usually is a tag on the differential that has the gear ratio too.

The other place to check is the glove box - mine was listed on the build sheet there on my '01.

Just drive it at 70mph in OD and lockup the engine rpm should be 2000rpm with 3. 55

It is a manual. In 5th at 70 it is around 2200. It is VERY windy outside and very cold so I have not had a chance to look at the diff cover yet for the tag. Thanks

My guess its a 4. 10 from your tach reading.

I agree with Huff N Puff, 2200 == 70MPH with 4. 10:1 gears + Manual transmission.
