Lock for Tailgate

I have just finished putting on a Pace Edwards roll - top tonneau cover. It is one of only two that I know of that I could install and wouldn't interfere with my Back-Rack. It has a lock, but the question is: How do I lock the tailgate? What has anybody used that they are pleased with? I see a lot of Ford trucks with a keyhole in the tailgate handle - What, we got the Cummins, they got a lockable tailgate? I guess we had to sacrifice something... ... ... . The parts man at the stealer said the only lock that Dodge had went with the Mopar hardcover tonneau so that doesn't help. Anybody know of an after market lock for the Dodge?

I found the "Bully" lock at Pep-boys for about $18 looks factory and only takes 10min to install

I had the same concern when I found out how easy it was to remove the tailgate. I ended up using a small piece of PVC pipe. (can't remember the size) cut to about 3/4" of an inch. Put the pipe over the piece on the right side (passenger side) where the tail gate pivots and slides out. Hope this makes sense.

Oops. . I realized what you're asking for. The PVC pipe will prevent from someone stealing your tailgate. Also, be sure to use a pencil and mark to location of the hinge before you remove it.



The tailgate locks look very nice. Makes you wonder why DC did not install them. I'm sure they were being cheap again... .

I put one of these on my tailgate. It works fine. Its just about the only option there is.

I also put a switch in the leads so when I lock/unlock the doors, the tailgate lock position can be unaffected.

Should have gone with the "Other One"... ..... Roll-N-Lock locks to your tailgate but it is an option, as well as locking into the bed rails. The POP-N-Lock is a POS... ... ... IMPO

Tailgate lock

I have the electric tailgate lock by Pop-N-Lock. It uses a deadbolt system on the inside of the tailgate and wires directly to your keyless entry. I also have the Pace Edwards Bedlocker Elec. Tonneau, and to date, I have not had anything go missing from the bed.

I just installed the Pace-Edwards Powergate electric lock that works with your electric door locks last evening. It works OK, but there was an obvious flaw in the design once I started putting it in. To install it, you pop the cover from the bottom with a screw driver to expose the workings of the latch handle. The 2 rods that connect the handle to the latch on each of the tail gate are right there. You can pretty easily pop these rods out of the handle mechanism and pull them towards the center and the gate will unlatch, regardless if the handle is locked by the Powergate or not. The Powergate simply interfers with the workings of the handle. True, it takes a little longer, but if a thief is equipped with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers, this would take about 20 seconds or less.



There needs to be a way to lock down the cover. The Pop N Lock I would guess has that figured out.

Not quite sure what you mean, but my Roll-N-Lock came with the tailgate lock as part of the kit. It is essentially a square tube you mount to the inside/top of the tailgate, and two hooks on the end of the roll top engage the tube when closed. I've had my Roll-N-Lock for about two years and it works as advertised. Only problem I had with it is the installation instructions and fit weren't 100% up to snuff...

Thanks to all for the responses - I guess I could have looked a little harder before I posted. I decided to go the low-tech route and ordered a Pop -N- Lock.

You are correct... ... . It used to be a standard feature. I believe that they made it an option in March of 2002.
