we bought a newer 5thw,it is a 2015 aritic fox 32-5 mdl dry weight is 12,500 loaded is 16,500 i thank.we have a 2005 1ton dwd auto and stock as you can get.no jack brake,so i was thinking to put a lock out for 4th gear to help with the tow haul also help slow it down when we are headed down the other side.what do you all think.

There is a flash for that era truck to make the tow/haul button lock out 4th, but you loose the programing that changes the shift points of using tow/haul. I opted to keep the programing in my 05.

Ring, diesels don't have engine braking in the class with gassers. I'm a little paranoid about being able to stop. I wouldn't even think about going in any "hills" with that much weight pushing me without a Pacbrake, even if I had to build the transmission first. You ain't got trouble until you have trouble!!

I had an 06 and put an exhaust brake on it worked great. Cost about 1500 worth every penny. Big co out of Azuza Ca. sells many Diesel aftermarket products. I cant thing of the name.

Locking an auto into a gear while going down a hill and not having an exhaust brake is what the GM Dura/Ally crowd had in the early '90s. It didn't work very well but I could never convince them of that, not until they drove a diesel WITH an EB.

am towed that 05 with auto trans wont work with exhaust brake.if you did it dosent work that good.

The experience I have had with my 05 automatic with the Pacbrake PRXB has been great. In fact, if I were to buy another 03-07 5.9 with a automatic transmission that did not have an exhaust brake, it would be my first modification, and would not tow without it! when towing, I rarely use my service brakes, except when slowing down to a stop. Most of my towing since I installed the Pacbrake has been all over the High Sierras, and on Highway 1 along the coast pulling the toyhauler. I did several trips in these areas before installing the PRXB, and would not choose to tow without it ever again, what a difference!! worth every penny. I have recently purchased the BD OD lockout controller, since I am tired of not having the 48RE stay in 3rd, while driving mostly under 55 MPH in the Sierra's.....I have not installed it yet but plan on it, before another camping trip. From what I gather, it should work well locking out OD.

did you put the brake on or did you have someone do it.i live just north of sacramento and dont know someone to trust with puting it on.

I put a PacBrake on my O4.5 a year or two ago. If I had to do it again it would have been the first mod to do after buying the truck. I leave it on most of the time but it shines when I travel to the sierras on long down grades. My experience and yours may vary: Because you are mating the PacBrake control box with the old/simple electronics of an 04.5, it requires a little more driver input to operate efficiently. Maybe it is how I set it up. On downgrades, sometimes I need to bump the throttle to ramp up the pressure to get it to engage. Not a big deal. Also, the exhaust brake will only stay on in one gear, say 4th, and stay on until it gets to a preset shut off at lower speed. You can tap the brake or shut off the exhaust brake, downshift and engage the exhaust brake again to take advantage of a lower gear. All that to say no automatic downshifting and exhaust brake engaging on my older truck. More driver input required.
I would do it again in a heartbeat, it is great peace of mind. I added a slightly lower stall torque converter and a shift kit.
Not sure if this would be the same for the 05 electronics. I know the T/H button is different than 04.5.
