The lock/ unlock gremlin in the 97 has returned. Sometimes it won't lock, no matter what speed I a go. Sometimes it hunts back and forth at ~55 MPH. Sometimes it locks and unlocks at 52 just like it should.

Its a 97 with a BD torque converter/torqlock/pacbrake. I have the pacbrake off and the torqlock in the 'stock' (white light) position.

The original TPS I replaced was set at . 85 volts. I set the replacement at that as well. I read some posts where people had good results at 1. 2+ volts. I tried 1. 0 and 1. 2 and couldn't make it lock up at all. I pulled the TPS wires out of the loom as well.

What next? I think I'll give the linkage and TV cable a good once over tonight, but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for. Any adjustment tips?

I'll take ANY other suggestions at this point.

Thanks,

-Vic

Did you pull your wires all the way out up towards the Firewall? I didnt at first and no fix. Then I pulled them all the way out and that did it for me.

Hope you get to the source. I know how aggrivating it can be.

The control circuit may not be the problem. You might be experiencing an intermittent problem in the power wiring to the lockup solenoid. I would check for loose or bad connections between the PCM and the transmission.

In my 94 the wires go directly from the PCM to the transmission but in later years I think there is a relay involved.

Check for loose grounds too.

VIC R- I had a similar problem after I installed my exhaust brake. I ran the wires for TC lock up down thru the 4 WD lever. I cut an indent out to route the wires, but did not take the time to break the edges and insulate the wire. It was intermitently shorting causing me lots of TC misbehaving. HTH
