This is my first post. Great site. Been following this forum for quite some time. Looking forward to my first issue of the magazine.

I'd like to be able to secure landscaping tools, power tools, etc in the bed of the truck. Doese anyone know of a company that does lockable tonneau covers for the 1st gen 8 ft bed? I shouldn't have assumed there'd be good aftermarket support for the truck.

I did a search of the forum, searched the internet. Truckaddons.com had a great selection but I could not find one.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Truck bed lid...

Welcome to the asylum Oo. Check my truck pictures in the gallery out :D I have an ARE, it cost around $800. 00. There is another brand out there that is made. Where do you live I forgot to notice  The source for the other lid is "Turners Truck Accessories" in San Bernardino CA. If you respond to this post I'll get the exact phone number for ya'. My lid works great, single handle/locking, good hydrolic lifts :-laf As you can see in the pic's I even have my tool box inside

Patrick.

I have a Leer Hard Toneau Cover, it locks with a key and goes far enough over the tailgate to prevent anyone from opening the tailgate too.

It opens easily with 2 hydraulic lift supports, and comes off with 6 bolts,

but you need 2 guys to lift it off.

I guess its like anything else though, if they want to break in they will and unfortunately do a lot of damage in the process.

I have been happy with it so far, I bought it when the truck was new so I am not sure exactly what it cost but around $ 800. 00 sounds right.

What a relief... for the wife and I. (She had to put up with me complaining about why the truck isn't better supported by the aftermarket. It isn't like the truck was produced in the 1970s. ) Thanks guys. :)

I liked the idea of a solid roll back lockable tonneau so I could haul large items or allow for soil to be dumped into the bed if necessary... without having to remove a topper or bed lid, then be able to lock things up after the haul. But... considering my options this is awesome.

The truck lid looks great. Which ARE model? Is it possible to unhook the hydraulics and hold the lid vertical? This is for when soil needs to be dumped in the bed.

I'm in Hawaii. I found a company through the Leer website. Aloha Toppers They said that by the end of May they'll be set up to distribute Leer.

btw

This is the first vehicle I've had where I don't want to stop driving it and it puts a smile on my face whenever I see it.

Thanks again!

ARE lid...

The lid model is: LS II. Price was $729. 00 not including tax, with free instillation :-laf yea, at that price :{ It attaches with six "C" type bolt on clamps. I've never tried to disconnect the supports, but they can be unbolted (allen head screws) easially. Good luck finding the right lid :D

Patrick.

Hmmm I could not find the 1st Gen in the list of trucks on the ARE website. Are there other years that are compatible with 1st Gen?

Here's what I was looking at.

ARE

You will find that NOBODY lists ANYTHING for 1st gens. You have to call and ask them if they have it. These things are obsolete don't you know.
