2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Locked both sets of keys in truck, help!

My '96 had a slider, my '00 doesn't. Wanna guess why?

Jetsons got it right:
One on the key ring and one in the bill fold. I got a slider but it's leaving. To easy to get in. Even with the truck locked, I have a real problem leaving my truck running and walking off.

Yeah been there, done that! When you guys managed to "break in" to your trucks did you set the alarm off? The wife locked the door once with the window down - duh (but fortunately). I came along, reached in popped up the button and the alarm went off. Not having had the truck that long I didn't know how to shut it off. Talk about feeling dumb!!!

Humm, seems too easy to get in these trucks! On that power door lock switch, has anyone considered a disable switch? I allready had to put a switch to disable the right side window... got worried about my Bit*h ... Standard Schnauzer! #ad

I keep a spare key wedged behind my beltbuckle. Used it once on my last truck. Sure comes in handy.

I carry two set of keys. One to lock in the truck the other to get to the keys I locked into the truck.

Works real good, until you leave the wallet in the cab. Been there done that! Anyway a spare hid on the outside someplace is the best insurance, although I have seen the magnetic key boxes fall off or get scraped off in the brush.

The first week I had my truck I locked both sets of keys in it. One in the ignition (engine running) and the other in my coat pocket. The coat was warm and dry on the seat and I was outside in a 40 knot gale with the rain. I walked to the Cummins dealer, about 1/2 a mile, and used his phone to call a locksmith. I wanted to visit the Cummins dealer anyway. I was going to call my wife at work but her key was at home. I don't put my keys in my coat pocket anymore.

Wow, I just locked mine in for the first time. I tried unsuccesfully to use the slimjim, no dice.

I tried briefly on the rear slifer with my knife. Started scratching the paint.

The 3rd method worked, I came inside and found this thread :-laf



Useed a screwdriver and hanger. Took about 10 seconds.



Anyway, thank you fellas. My wife will love this when she gets home. She is the queen of locking her keys in, 17 times so far(she's counting).



My spare was of course on my wallet, in my truck.

You guys worry about your rear sliders, my old truck has wing windows. Any fool with a coat hanger and a wire cutters can be in the wing in a few seconds. Heck, I have become a pro at it. One day my 2 year old daughter was in the truck, in the garage, and she tripped the door locks. Now I felt like a fool!!! Not only were my keys in the truck, but my daugther was locked in and just laughing like heck. Then to make things worse, my WIFE caught me breaking in to the truck!! !



Keys are in my pocket when my daughter is in the truck!

A good place to hide a spare is in the fuel door. Where the nice place to put the cap is while fueling, there is a little gap, so a key with black plastic on the top will sit there well.

Another use for 120mph tape

I've locked myself out more times than I can count. Once with bothsets inside. I cut a spare, crawled under the beast, and with a foot of duct tape hid my key. Someone would have to spend a lond time looking before thay found it. (that is not a challenge )

Years ago I used to tend bar at a joint that shared a parking lot with the amtrack commuter train. This bar is about 30 miles north of Baltimore. Well one day, a regular of mine who would park his car, and commute to Washington D. C. everyday walks in with a sheepish look on his face, looking for a coat hanger. Turns out he not only locked his keys in his car, but did so while it was running. :--)

I have had the magnetic safes fall off. Therefore I use electricians tape and tape a key to the wiring harness underneath somewhere in the rear. If you pick a large bundle, it is almost impossible to see. Inconvenient to get at, but it is there when you need it. I still find it useful!!

earlier this year I did the same thing at the Chili Challenge in Las Cruces.

A call to AAA and when the locksmith came, he had it open within 5 seconds :-laf

Ok I think my slider is the only one to do this! I locked myself out at a fuel station and climbed in the bed to play with the slider and guess what..... the whole sider will slide to one side even locked. both parts of the window just slide out of the way and I climb up to the door to hit the switch. I have since had to do this 5 more times and now I am paranoid about locking myself out and it allways seems to happen when I forget to check the locks. So I now double check the handle and lock when I get out. I wonder if anyone elses slider works like mine and yes it was factory installed not aftermarket.
