I have tried searching the forums for this info. but come up with nothing. I locked my keys in my truck and the extra set of keys that I gave to my wife for safe keeping, she lost. :-{} I have called USAA and they are sending out someone with a "slim jim" but in the mean time, does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how I can get in my truck without damaging it or destroying the rear sliding window?

I don't know is this is to late for you but I have a problem of locking my keys in my truck all the time. What I do is take a wire coat hanger if you can find one and put a edium sized hook on it. Go to the passenger side of the truck and stick it between the glass and the rubber close to the lock of the door and go down about 1/2 way and startpulling till you catch something and you will get it sooner or later.

I did that last winter but i wsa lucky  enough to leave the engine running, i just grabbed on of my friends lawn reflectors with a heavy gauge rod, I just opened the window :-laf

I have never verified this and it may be urban legend so don't shoot the messenger but... .

Supposedly, if someone has access to your spare key fob, you can call them from a cell phone (I think they have to be on a cell phone too) and they can unlock your doors by clicking the unlock button. Something about the frequency of the fob being able to be recognized and transmitted via cell phone. Again, I have never verified this but it may have merit since OnStar can unlock your doors via remote signal.

This sort of thread should have replies handled by PM only. I don't think it's very wise to broadcast "tricks of the trade" to potential thieves of our trucks.

On my 96 I was able to open the rear side glass with a screwdriver carefull not to scratch the paint and then once open proceeded to use a long piece of 1/4 round trim and reach over to the pass side front door unlock button and push it.

You have a point but I think the thieves already know these tricks... it's part of their training ;)

This is not intended to help with your immediate problem, but to prevent this from happening again. Since our keys have a chip in them, I had two copies of the key made. The copies will not start the truck, but they will allow me to unlock the truck, then I have an original key (with the chip) hidden in the truck to start the it. One copy of the original key is kept with my house keys in my pocket at all times and the other copy I have hidden under the truck where I can gain access to it.

I know that the dealer where I bought my pas 2 trucks, have a "key number" that they had in my folder. I assume you can take the number to any locksmith and get a new key cut. Hopefully, this can work for you and save using your slim jim. Sometimes the guys from AAA are not that careful and there is alot of stuff, wires and such inside the door" that can get damaged. I would give your dealer a call and see what they can do for you. You might also try giving D/C a call with your Vin number and maybe they can shed some light on the problem. If all else fails, i would break the slider lock before I tried to "jimmy" the front door. That plastid latch would be alot cheaper to replace than any damage that could be caused by shoving and pulling on anything inside your door. . Best of luck to you getting this taken care of. I have 4 sets of keys for my truck. the dealer supolied me with one extra beside the 2 that came with it, and I paid another 2 bucks and got another, just to keep on a hook in the garage. :) Good luck!

Joe,

It is in reference to the 3rd generation trucks, not the 1st or 2nd gens.

I had a home despot key made for just getting into the truck.

It will fit into the ignition and start spinning the starter, but it will not start with out the electronic key.

This is true for 1999 because they did not have the electronic chip in the key at that time. I don't know what year Dodge started with the chip in the key. May be with the 3rd generation.

Just wanted to post a follow up and thank you for the replies and suggestions. I ended up calling USAA, as I have road side assistance on my truck insurance with them. They sent a guy out with a AAA locksmith kit and he was able to get into my truck in a few seconds. NO CHARGE :--) Oo. :D He could have done it a lot faster but was being VERY careful so as not to damage the weather stripping or glass. I live in a VERY remote and rural area so it took him about 2 1/2 hours to get to the ranch but I was REAL glad to see him. Hat's off to USAA for some great service!

As life, along with "Murphy's Law" would have it; my wife found the set of keys I gave her for safe keeping wedged in between the passenger seat and arm rest of my truck of all places! :-{}

if you have sliding rear window you can insert a small screwdriver in the top or bottom and take a second and start prying and walking them towards the middle. they will overpower the lock and it should pop open about half way up.
