I purchased the Mopar locking fuel cap when I took delivery of my '03. The part number is 05278655. List price was $13. 00; my price with the truck was $11. 00. I found that I did not need to remove the original cap that is tethered to the truck with a plastic strap. It fits alongside the locking gas cap in the remaining space, and the fuel door will still close completely.

I have an 02 and it was a tight fit with the OEM cap and the mopar locking cap. Put the OEM cap in the box with the spare lp and ff.

I have had trouble in subfreezing weather with the key tumbler freezing up. I split a small piece of heater hose to cover the top of the cap to keep water out.

Don't they make an antifreeze for a lock? I'm in florida, but seems like I remember something like that from my North Dakota years.

It was freezing rain and it filled up the tumbler. Did not think I needed to do anything since it was behind the fuel door.

Just a thought,

My wife gets a little plastic bonnet thing at the supermarket to cover left over food dishes in the refridgerator. They come in all sizes. I wonder if something like that would be of use to the guys in serious weather. It has a elastic band in the skirt of it so it will conform to just about any shape.

The custard dish size is about the same size as a fuel cap in diameter. Would something like that help? It is disposable, cheap, conformal, readially available. The plastic might not be able to take sever cold, however we put them in the freezer without problems.

Just lock the cap, tighten it securly, put the plastic cover over the cap, and it should be pretty well protected from water getting into the lock area.

Just a thought,

opjohnny,

my tumblers froze too. I had to run home and get my heat gun to thaw it. I just put my non-locking cap back on until march. I didn't think I needed anything either, since it was behind the fuel door.
