I've been a hot-rodder/custom freak all my life - as well as an electronics nut - my Dodge is largely a great big toy - I certainly DON'T want to do anything to it to damage it or shorten it's life - but if it DOES fail somehow - either on it's own or because of something I did to it, it won't be the end of the world, life goes on... ;)

Know what you mean, got my first car when I was 16 from the junk yard for $200 and rebuilt the engine, did the body work and painted it. It was a 58 Thunderbird. Wish I would of found a "57" instead. I was poor and my Dad and I did the work together. Now a days I love to understand everything but with all of the electronics I don't like to mess with them. I never did understand the electronic stuff, I know that's shocking :)

"I don't want to make it easy for some idiot or prankster to mess with my fuel. I recommend the cap from Dodge. "

YUP - that was primarily my reasoning as well - locking caps weren't available for my '91 - was glad to find they were for the later ones. Bad enough when they steal yer fuel - WORSE if they choose to dump junk into yer tank just for the "fun" of it... :(

One less thing to be concerned about - we get quite a bit of petty theft and vandalism out here in the country... ;)

This surprises me--aren't the caps all the same? What's different--threads or diameter of the fill neck maybe?

Seems silly to me...

Different style cap - no locking ones available for my '91 back when I was in the market for one - dunno if any ever did become available...

Sadly, the locking fuel cap can be defeated in seconds..... fortunately not without tools. If anyone ever has one fail PM me and I'll tell you how to remove it without damaging the filler neck.

I need to get down to the stealer and order one for my 01'. They are different on the earlier 2nd gens- I have one on the tool bench off my 96 and it will not fit my 01. I'm not sure when they changed.
